Project Description

USAID Burundi is planning to launch Itongo Ryanje Itunga Ryanje a new activity. The Itongo Ryanje Itunga Ryanje Activity in Burundi aims to address critical challenges faced by women in the agriculture sector particularly in accessing land increasing productivity and adapting to climate change. By empowering women in agriculture value chains the project seeks to enhance their economic and social standing ability to influence their families and communities and strengthen resilience to climate impacts. The activity will be implemented in close coordination with a variety of local actors including the private sector other project implementers and the Government of Burundi (GOB) to strengthen women participation in marketdriven enterprises and build their entrepreneurial leadership and management skills to achieve greater economic independence.

Position Description

This position will be responsible for all program and technical direction ensuring that programming is aligned with the vision goals and plans to achieve program results. With guidance and support of the Chief of Party (COP) the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will coordinate the provision of technical services harmonize efforts and maximize synergy and integration between project program areas. The DCOP will set a positive tone for the entire project and inspire staff to apply resultsbased approaches for timely delivery of services to the clients we serve including but not limited to timely producing highquality documentation of projects successes and lessons learned for local and international audiences as well as quarterly reports. S/He will be responsible for coordinating with home office short term technical specialists as well as with any implementing partners in Burundi.

The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) acts as the Chief of Party (COP) in the absence of the COP.


Qualifications :

Education:

Masters degree with seven years of experience working in a relevant field such as management business social sciences or development studies is desired. A bachelors degree with ten years of experience working on advancing womens rights economic empowerment or other appropriate area is required.

Responsibilities and Experience: Responsibilities of the Deputy Chief of Party include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as principal point of contact in Burundi for procedural and substantive matters in the absence of the COP.
  • Provide technical leadership and managerial oversight for the project and ensure the efficient implementation of project activities and the timely reporting of those activities to EDC headquarters and USAID.
  • Coordinate project and collaborate with partners donors USAID country mission and stakeholders including EDC headquarters and any implementing partners.
  • Serve as a member of the Burundi Project Leadership Team.
  • Promote a team approach that emphasizes high level performance creative approaches the achievement of personal and project goals and a collegial approach that is focused on assisting one another to succeed for project staff in Burundi as well as the support team members in the Home Office.
  • The DCOP will set direction and coordinate annual workplan development implementation and review. S/he will ensure alignment with frameworks and strategies national and donor strategies in Burundi and EDCs approaches. The DCOP will identify opportunities for integrated planning and implementation creating synergies between various program areas.
  • The DCOP shall guide and coach project staff (including those from implementing partners) in leveraging project nonproject and community resources through the establishment and maintenance of partnerships and networks.
  • Ensure approaches that promote gender equality youth engagement and social inclusion are integrated into programming and effectively implemented;
  • Contribute to a knowledge management system and regularly identify and apply learning refining approaches as needed to close gender gaps and promote social inclusion across project activities.
  • Identify and effectively manage all key risks related to the program including compliance with donor transparency and due diligence requirements.
  • Experience working on similar USAID/DRG or other donorfunded programs; familiarity with USAID regulations and policies preferred;

Language:

Fluency in French and English is required.
