Job Description

THE PROPOSED SALARY IS A FLAT RATE SALARY: $72190.00 CITY RESEARCH SCIENTIST I.

Division/Program Summary Description:

The Bureau of Community Awareness Action Response and Engagement (BCAARE) engages and supports community action to learn from community members experiences and expectations to develop and disseminate behavioral health linkages and supports for wellness and for preparing for and responding to local and widespread events and emergencies. The bureau invites and includes peer perspectives to integrate equitable access to behavioral health across sectors and settings.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner of the Bureau of Community Awareness Action Response and Engagement the critical role of the Special Assistant to the Assistant Commissioner will be to support the bureaus coordination across units and management fulfillment and escalation of expedited reports to agency and city leadership that identify gaps and barriers to timely appropriate intervention. Without this essential role the city potentially places New Yorkers at heightened risk for poor longterm mental and physical outcomes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Collate coordinate assist with and conduct data collection quantitative/qualitative data analysis and research to track all office programming across all OCET teams for reporting purposes; develop and implement special projects to fill gaps in care.
Conduct literature reviews particularly regarding evidencebased practices and innovation in relevant mental health services to inform outcome measures survey development and research design.
Support data needs of BCAARE offices and the bureau by providing input reviewing process of
surveys and managing the data collection data reporting data quality checks and program evaluation.
Provide data for presentations/conferences and talking points for Agency/BCAARE leadership
disproportionately bearing health disparities including those who receive BCAARE services.
Develop and present reports briefings proposals position statements and presentations for internal and external distribution at the direction of the AC.
Assist to prepare the AC or designated unit leads for highlevel meetings including the development of agendas and background documents.
Participate in special projects and workgroups as assigned.
Represent the AC as requested to community partners providers and the public.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical biological and environmental sciences and public health) A masters degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and one year of fulltime experience in a responsible supervisory administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A masters degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and three years of responsible fulltime research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least a masters degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in 2 above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in 1 and 2 above.

NOTE:
Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
