Job Description

The Division of Disease Controls mission is to safeguard the health of New Yorkers through identification surveillance treatment control and prevention of infectious diseases which is achieved through varied and interrelated endeavors of its seven Bureaus. The Bureau of Hepatitis HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (BHHS) mission is to improve the lives of New Yorkers by ending transmission illness stigma and inequities related to viral hepatitis HIV and sexually transmitted infections. BHHS accomplishes its mission through testing initiatives; prevention care and treatment programming; epidemiology and surveillance; training and technical assistance; community engagement; social marketing; policy advocacy; and racial equity and social justice initiatives. BHHS works to end viral hepatitis HIV and STIs in New York City using an approach that is innovative intersectional data informed and communitydriven. The Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiatives (RESJI) Program is committed to supporting BHHS and NYC DOHMH at large in advancing public health strategies that mitigate racism sexism homophobia transphobia and other systems of oppression that contribute to poor health and health inequities. The RESJI team does this through leading efforts to embed an equity lens across BHHS research programmatic policy capacity building and evaluation activities; supports efforts to advance workforce equity and leads engagement with broader agencywide internal reform initiatives to advance racial equity and justice.

The RESJI Program is expanding its capacity to support new and ongoing programs serving New Yorkers at risk of or affected by hepatitis HIV and STIs; to build capacity of BHHS staff to incorporate racial equity traumainformed and antistigma concepts and best practices into their work; and to increase BHHS staff readiness to be racial equity leaders. This role is a great fit for someone with a demonstrated interest and commitment to health equity. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within diverse teams. Strong candidates will be very organized diplomatic flexible and resourceful.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Work with the RESJI team support the planning development and implementation of a wide range of projects aimed at embedding racial equity and social justice within BHHS activities.
Coordinate RESJI program tasks and activities including monitoring progress toward development and implementation of strategic priorities related to equity and justice.
Support the preparation and disseminating of presentations reports technical assistance and other resources to a diverse set of BHHS stakeholders which include but are not limited to: o HIV Health and Human Services Planning Council of New York o New York City HIV Planning Group o New York Knows o Womens Advisory Board o Sexual Health Advisory Group (SHAG)
Support the planning of community outreach and engagement events coordinated by BHHS or other partnering bureaus to address social determinants of health stigma and health inequities experienced by NYC communities most affected by HIV STIs and viral hepatitis.
Support the planning and implementation of virtual and inperson events for BHHS staff to promote a culture of inclusion and to expand opportunities for community building professional development and learning related to equity and social justice.
Support administrative and operational functions of the RESJI program including organization and tracking of financial and budget documentation scheduling notetaking routine reporting to bureau and division leadership and archiving of RESJI best practices and resources.
Support the development implementation dissemination and reporting of staff and communityfacing surveys as needed.
Help the RESJI team maintain situational awareness of the social cultural and health care contexts affecting BHHS priority populations in NYC.
Liaise with staff in other bureaus divisions and agencies to exchange and document best practices around embedding racial equity initiative into ongoing work and workplace culture.
As needed support the drafting and reviewing of written materials assisting with project planning and project management and coordinating or facilitating meetings.
Perform adhoc duties as may be assigned by supervisor or Program Director.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Experience and skills in effectively facilitating discussions around racial equity gender equity and social
justice.
Understanding of health equity and social justice with a focus on how they relate to with people
vulnerable to or living with HIV sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and/or viral hepatitis.
Strong interest in working collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders to foster positive
organizational culture change and advance racial equity through improving institutional policy and
practice.
Professional and/or lived experience engaging with marginalized communities that have been
historically underserved by public health and/or health care.
Professional and/or lived experience in working with transgender gender nonconforming and/or gender nonbinary (TGNCNB) individuals or communities to address health service and/or advocacy needs.
Ability and interest in working with a diverse range of care and support service providers and community members living with and/or affected by HIV STIs and viral hepatitis.
Experiencing managing and monitoring project tasks and deadlines including ensuring completion of independent tasks by a team of collaborators.
Experience in planning and coordinating engaging communitybuilding events.
Ability to plan and coordinate events such as meetings and trainings.
Ability to diplomatically navigate organizational culture diverse perspectives cope with multiple demands and problem solve.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint.
Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
Experience managing sensitive information with discretion and respect.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
