THIS IS A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT WHEN A TEST BECOMES AVAILABLE IN THE ASSOCIATE JOB OPPORTUNITY SPECIALIST (AJOS) TITLE YOU MUST TAKE AND PASS THE EXAM TO REMAIN IN THE ABOS TITLE.
Under general supervision with latitude for independent decision making and action in accordance with agency policies/procedures and federal/state regulations reports to the Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist II of the Centralized Rent Processing Unit (CRPU) responsible for ensuring the timely processing of emergency rent arrears grants approved by the Rental Assistance Unit (RAU) for and FHEPS housing subsidy grants approved by the FHEPS Centralized Determination Unit (FCDU) The Centralized Rent Processing Unit is a responsible for the citywide processing of checks for approved emergency rent arrears requests and approvals by FCDU on requests for FHEPS housing subsidy payments.
The Centralized Rent Processing Unit (CRPU) is responsible for the timely processing and issuing of checks on grants approved by RAU and FCDU and the disbursement of rent checks to DHS Landlord Homebase and Legal Services Providers.
The ABOS I/CRPU Specialist is responsible for assigning cases to BOS workers and reviewing for accuracy before forwarding for additional approvals or forwarding to the next step/stage for processing. Ensures the successful processing of the prior days assigned cases to ensure daily processing targets are achieved.
HPA/ CRPU is recruiting for two (2) Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist 01 to function as CRPU Specialists who will:
Monitor the BOS staffs time and leave. Hold unit meetings to disseminate information related
to program changes or agency updates.
Assign cases to the BOS Workers for review and processing once approvals are received from
RAU & FCDU to process the checks associated with the approvals. Review cases for accuracy
prior to approving grants and approval notices which involves ensuring that all necessary
documentation (Court Stipulations Landlord Breakdown Proof of address Income
verification etc.) is available in HRA Viewer before assigning. Review if there is conflicting
information regarding landlord information (such as the landlords name address and payee
designation W9 TIN clearance proof of ownership and lease and brokers licenses) review
WMS information to ensure that an action can be processed based on the status of the case and
ensure the accuracy of the housing and check issuance subsidy codes are correct. Return case
to BOS worker with detailed comments for correction. Refer case to ABOS II if second level of
approval is needed when issuances/grants exceed $1500.
Ensure all error corrections and purged checks grants are completed daily. Review case actions
from the previous day to determine if the case action has been successfully processed in WMS.
Return any case actions with errors to the BOS worker for a 24hour turnaround to correct the
error(s).
Initiate stop payments on outstanding checks not received by the landlords by reviewing the
case to ensure that the check has not been cashed and follows several steps that will allow the
stop payment action in Finance.net. Submit the stop payment action in the system for final review
and approval.
Review compile and analyze activity reports submitted by assigned JOS workers. Prepare
Daily Error Report and Purged Check Report from the POS Management Console to ensure
errors are corrected timely and that benefits that have been purged are corrected and reissued
in a timely manner. Provide daily information regarding the total number of purged checks and
number of errors needing correction for management reports.

Qualifications :
1. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of
fulltime satisfactory experience working directly in social/human services or a
related setting providing either:
a) client services.
b) employment planning/counseling services which involves job development
skills assessment and employment placement or other economic
opportunity programming.
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; plus eighteen months of full time satisfactory experience working as a Benefits Opportunity Specialist; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; plus eighteen months of full time satisfactory experience as described in one (1) above.
4. College credit from an accredited college may be substituted for this experience
on the basis of 60 semester credits for 9 months of the work experience described
above. However all candidates must have at least 18 months of fulltime
satisfactory experience working as a Benefits Opportunity Specialist or performing
social/human services work as described in one (1) above.
