PROGRAM AND JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) seeks to eliminate racial and other inequities resulting in premature mortality. With an unwavering grounding in history and structural analysis CHECW works to increase visibility of the harm perpetuated by centuries of racist socially unjust policy while pushing towards redress for the most impacted NYC communities. CHECW addresses inequity across community and healthcare systems in partnership with community faithbased and health care organizations. CHECWs work focuses on social determinants of health including environmental and commercial determinants and addresses both upstream and downstream factors to improve health and well being of New Yorkers. CHECW is comprised of the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention the Bureau of Health Equity Capacity Building the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems and the Bureau of Finance Administration and Services. The divisions Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agencys Chief Equity Officer and oversees Race to Justice the Agencys internal reform effort to help our staff learn what they can do to better address racial health gaps and improve health outcomes for all New Yorkers.
CHECW sits under the Agencys Chief Medical Officer. The Bureau of Equitable Health Systems (BEHS) is the healthcare systems bureau of DOHMH. Our mission is to apply policy evidence and practical expertise to improve equity in health care delivery at the individual organizations to implement evidence based strategies leveraging information to support planning and technical assistance for providers and payers advancing policy to close the racial equity gap for priority health outcomes and surfacing opportunities where health care can influence and connect consumers to social support and addressing the whole person beyond physical ailments. The Bureau of Equitable Health Systems seeks to hire a Health Payment & Financing Intern to analyze various healthcare finance and payment topics.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Analyze various healthcare finance and payment topics including but not limited to Medicaid/Medicare payment and credentialing alternative payment models valuebased arrangements and disproportionate share payments.
Perform literature reviews on the impact of payment and financial policy changes nationally in quality and population health outcomes.
Perform background research in support of payment financing and healthcare delivery policy goals.
This includes but is not limited to preparing project summaries and reports on population health interventions.
Prepare briefs reports and presentations.
Coordinate meetings with stakeholders including but not limited to scheduling preparing presentations taking notes and providing followup to action items.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Experience with stakeholder management and project management.
Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial incentives in the healthcare delivery and payment systems.
Demonstrated knowledge in emerging ways to utilize electronic data for collaborative delivery and payment models (e.g. RHIOs).
Strong analytical skills and ability to manage and report complex information.
Experience with data collection analysis and interpretation.
Desire to grow professionally develop new skills and willingness to work outside of comfort zone.
Experience working with public health Spector and coordinating project involving multiple stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize and work in fastpaced environment with hard deadlines.
Fluency in Microsoft Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint.

Qualifications :
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or closely related field including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than halftime in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed fulltime during their vacation periods.
