Job Description

The Office of the First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright ensures that City government runs efficiently and focuses on many of the administrations top priorities from creating opportunities for young people to strengthening the citys civic infrastructure the office works in partnership with stakeholders inside and outside of city government to develop scale coordinate and deliver policies plans and operations in an equitable and sustainable way.

The office of the First Deputy Mayor is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Data Policy Advisor. This individual will support the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force in advancing priority initiatives across city agencies and through community partnerships. This individual will be responsible for the monitoring data associated with the strategies of Gun Violence Prevention in various domains. In coordination with the Office of the First Deputy Mayor and relevant city agencies they will measure performance over time and quantify impact of initiatives at the individual community and system level via an interactive data dashboard. This important work will enable the City to make decisions that optimize outcomes promote efficiency and address problems faced by New Yorkers. The Data Policy Advisor will also support the implementation of recommendations develop and track action plans and ensure objectives are met. The Data Policy Advisor will serve as a liaison among agencies community organizations and other public and private partners with a particular focus on upstream causes of gun violence.

The Data Policy Advisor will act upon design and develop policies programs and initiatives that are consistent with the First Deputy Mayors goals and objectives. They will:

Develop logic models and track KPIs for new and inflight initiatives

Manage systems to monitor implementation of new programs and policies

Determine appropriate data and methodology to measure program impact.

Develop comprehensive data documentation

Coordinate with IT staff to structure and process data

Use data visualization techniques to effectively communicate findings to broad audiences
such as mayoral officials and to community stakeholders.

Manage the development and presentation of performance reports and benchmarking
activities.

Leverage existing data resources such as the American Community Survey (ACS) Open
Data Community Health Survey (CHS) etc. to provide context for analyses.

Develop an expertise in the administrative data and policies of City agencies.

Coordinate key projects (agency interagency and among community stakeholders) that
advance the goals of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force

Provide ongoing leadership and project management and oversee progress on
implementation;

Originate and/or oversee the generation of projectrelated documents including schedules
project plans presentations meeting agendas minutes status reports etc.

Represent the First Deputy Mayors Office at meetings with stakeholders staff and internal
and external committees etc. to develop and sustain positive relationships and networks
gather information opinions and attitudes identify stakeholder needs provide interpretation
and clarification of collected data develop response options and generate cooperation and
buyin to policy initiatives;

Analyze and make recommendations on special projects that raise issues and/or concerns.


Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
