The New York City Department of Community Development invests in a network of communitybased organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) funds services for Runaway and Homeless Youth that include Dropin Centers Crisis Services Programs Transitional Independent Living Support programs and Street Outreach and referral Services.
The New York City Youth Count a pointintime assessment of locations where young people ages 1424 spent the night is part of an ongoing effort to improve the count of youth experiencing homelessness and better understand the housing experiences of youth and young adults in New York City. The 2025 New York City Youth Count is planned for the end of January and usually lasts 4 days.
DYCD seeks a Youth Count Coordinator to support the implementation of this assessment. This is a 6month position from the hire date. The coordinator would commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week and will report to the Director of Strategic Partnerships Data Analysis.
Primary responsibilities would include:
Providing administrative support for the Youth Count including correspondence with partners meeting
coordination and responding to inquiries.
Acting as a liaison between City agencies service providers and youth participants during the Youth
Count planning process.
Coordinating volunteer and youth involvement including participation in planning meetings and other
stakeholder conversations.
Conducting site visits during the Youth Count and as needed for other initiatives
Coordinating outreach efforts
Managing volunteers during the Youth Count
Assisting with implementing the survey
Participating in RHY staff meetings
Keeping records of agendas meeting notes and correspondence.
Informing staff and contracted agencies of changes in programs policies and procedures.
Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory fulltime experience in community work youth activities administrative planning teaching or related fields; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college or completion of two years of study (60 credits) at an accredited college and five years of satisfactory fulltime experience in community work youth activities administrative planning teachingor related fields; or
3. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and seven years of satisfactory fulltime experience in community work youth activities administrative planning teaching or related fields
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 2 or 3 above. However all candidates must have at least a fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least three years of satisfactory fulltime experience as described in 1 above. A masters degree from an accredited college can be substituted for one year of required experience.
