You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully reenter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOC seeks to recruit an Associate Commissioner to support the Division of Programs and Community Partnerships programming services and operations. With guidance of the Divisions Deputy Commissioner and with wide latitude for independent judgement and decision making the Associate Commissioner will supervise four Assistant Commissioners: AC of Advancement & Enrichment AC of Programs Operations AC of Reintegration and AC of Counseling Services/SSH. They will support guide and mentor the Assistant Commissioners of Programs in achieving the internal goals captured under the Divisions Strategic Plan as they lead each of their units and team members to include Executive Directors and staff assigned to Programs within the commands. The selected candidate will work closely and align with all Associate Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to quantify performance and measure quality of programs and services afforded by members from the Division community partners providers through small purchase orders and volunteers; review approve and submit reports required by internal and external stakeholders to include the Board of Correction Mayors Office of Criminal Justice and Nu ez Monitoring Team. The Associate Commissioner will also work closely with other Divisions from the Department to ensure compliance and adherence to internal protocols; convene daily weekly and adhoc stakeholder meetings to ensure programs are afforded in a comprehensive integrated client centered manner.
Qualifications :
1.A Masters Degree from an accredited college in Public Administration Personnel Administration Business Administration Human Services Criminal Justice Political Science Psychology or a related field plus three years of satisfactory experience of a nature to qualify for the duties and responsibilities of the position at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position; or
2.A bachelors degree from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory experience of a nature to qualify for the duties and responsibilities of the position at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position; or
3.A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of satisfactory fulltime progressively responsible experience as described in 1 above 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity.
