Job Description

The Boating and Dive Officer (BDO) will manage all aspects of boating and diving operations within the Sciences Group. You will be working with a broad cliental base to facilitate diverse achievements from the upskilling of STEM students to supporting world leading researchers tackling complex environmental issues involving our most precious resource water.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordination and review of fieldwork involving waterbased activities (e.g. boating diving snorkelling kayaking/canoeing in both marine and freshwater environments) and terrestrialbased activities.
  • Holistic induction and training of personnel undertaking fieldwork from the planning/submission phase of the fieldwork to the safe departure from and return to campus and everything in between.
  • Inwater assessment and verification of competency of divers
  • Direct operational support of fieldwork activities (e.g. operation and supervision of watercraft including launching piloting retrieving as well as participation in dive operations)
  • Records management of: qualifications (e.g. boating diving first aid) equipment (e.g. licensing/certification maintenance) risk management (e.g. guidelines manuals procedures risk assessments SOPs/SWMS) and training (e.g. verifications of competency inductions)
  • Management of planned preventative maintenance schedules for Sciences managed waterbased equipment and watercraft
  • Ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance for all fieldwork activities
  • Management of building wardens and first aid officer complements

The BDO is a member of the Technical Coordination and Logistics (TCL) Team reporting to the Senior Technical Manager within the Sciences Group at Griffith University.

Qualifications :

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Drivers Licence
  • Boating Qualifications:
    • Minimum: Qld Recreational Boating Licence
    • Preferred: Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal
  • Diving Qualifications:
    • Minimum: Certified as occupational SCUBA diver in accordance with AS 2815.1:2021 (or equivalent)
    • Preferred: Certified as occupational SCUBA dive supervisor in accordance with AS 2815.5:2013
  • First Aid Qualifications (in accordance with AS/NZS 2299.1)
    • Minimum: HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
    • Minimum: HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy
  • Ability to maintain current Diver Medical Fitness certificate (or equivalent in accordance with AS/NZS 2299.1)
  • Teaching Qualifications:
    • Preferred: TAE 40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

This is a continuing fulltime position and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. As Griffith is a multicampus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 7 range $98603 $106825 per annum 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $115365 $124986 per annum.
