General Automotive Mechanic
The General Automotive Mechanic will support service operations by inspecting and maintaining vehicles and equipment.
Work Schedule: MondayFriday 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM 40hour work weeks 5 days a week
Job Responsibilities:
- Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as engine tuneups oil changes tire rotations and changes wheel balancing and replacing filters.
- Maintains vehicle functionality by addressing operator complaints conducting inspections repairing engine failures fixing mechanical and electrical system malfunctions replacing parts and components and repairing body damage.
- Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine safety and combustion control standards.
- Maintains vehicle records by recording services and repairs.
- Keeps shop equipment operational by following operating instructions troubleshooting breakdowns maintaining supplies performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.
- Contains costs by utilizing warranties and evaluating service and parts options.
- Keeps supplies stocked by inventorying items placing orders and verifying receipt.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Accomplishes maintenance and organizational goals by completing related tasks as needed.
- Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning and washing.
- Reports daily to the Shop Supervisor for all important decisions and work schedules.
Qualifications :
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an auto mechanic
- Dealer experience is preferred but not required
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical electrical and electronic components of vehicles
- Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- High energy level
- Must be able to handle physically demanding work
- Proven experience delivering quality work and a high level of customer service
- Ability to handle various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lifts)
- Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protection against accidents dangerous fluids chemicals etc.
- High school diploma is preferred; certification from a vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship is also preferred
- Valid certification (e.g. ASE) is a definite plus
