Job Description
Are you ready to navigate your way towards a new career SCF Lewis and Clark Terminals LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of Ingram Barge Company) is currently hiring for Fleet Deckhands to support our fleeting operations in Granite City IL.
This position requires associates to live within 50 miles of Granite City IL.
Before applying please note:
- Must have Drivers License and a valid TWIC Card
- These vessels work a variety of schedules ranging from 5/2 5/3 and 7/7. You will be assigned to a vessel after completion of Orientation.
- Candidates wishing for a position working 28/28day schedule should apply to the Linehaul Deckhand posting. Regardless of assignment and schedule you will be reliable for your own transportation to and from your hitches.
What youll be doing:
- Assisting deck crew in tow building (laying wires tighten ratchets sweep and shovel barges)
- Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
- Assisting with locking
- Carrying rigging (ratchets wires and straps) pumps hoses and lines
- Working outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow
- Checking barges for water and leaks which at times requires climbing into confined spaces
- Upkeeping vessel appearance includes sooging (washing) chipping and painting
- Assisting the Engineer as requested
- Practicing safe crew vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
- Participating in safety drills and audits
- Performing other related duties as assigned or requested
Qualifications :
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstration of The Ingram Way
- Ability to uphold Ingrams high safety standards.
- Ability to work away from home for extended periods (21 14 or 7day hitches)
- Ability to work in a fastpaced environment.
- Ability to respond quickly in unexpected circumstances.
- Demonstration of critical thinking and decisionmaking skills
- Strong communication within all levels of the organization
- Ability to demonstrate teamwork and acceptance of diversity.
- Must be able to read and write the English language in order to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
- Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
- Pass a postoffer process if an offer is made (background check drug screen and physical)
- Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet.
- Be able to work in confined spaces often entering through a manhole.
- Be able to climb a ladder and able to board and ride in a skiff.
