Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Curriculum Planning and Instruction

    • Develop and deliver engaging mathematics lessons based on the school’s curriculum, covering topics such as algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and trigonometry.
    • Ensure that the curriculum is followed while adapting lessons to meet the needs of students with different learning styles and abilities.
    • Use various teaching strategies to explain mathematical concepts, making them understandable and relevant to students.
    • Incorporate real-world applications of mathematics into lessons to demonstrate its relevance and encourage student engagement.
  • Assessment and Monitoring Student Progress

    • Design and implement various assessment tools, including tests, quizzes, assignments, and projects, to measure student understanding.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and assessments to help students improve their mathematical skills.
    • Track individual student progress, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, and adapting teaching strategies accordingly.
    • Maintain detailed records of student performance, including grades, participation, and progress over time.
  • Classroom Management and Discipline

    • Create a positive, respectful, and productive learning environment that fosters student engagement and encourages participation.
    • Set clear expectations for student behavior and classroom conduct, ensuring a focused and disciplined learning atmosphere.
    • Manage classroom resources, such as mathematical tools and technology, and ensure students use them responsibly.
    • Encourage collaborative learning through group work, discussions, and peer-to-peer teaching opportunities.
  • Differentiated Instruction

    • Tailor lessons and teaching materials to accommodate students with varying abilities and learning styles.
    • Provide additional support to students who may struggle with certain mathematical concepts or who require extra help with homework.
    • Offer enrichment opportunities and advanced topics for students who excel in mathematics, fostering their interest in more challenging mathematical fields.
    • Use adaptive technologies and learning tools to support differentiated instruction for students with special educational needs (SEN) or English as a second language (ESL).
  • Encouraging Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking

    • Encourage students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills by providing complex problems that require logical reasoning and creativity.
    • Incorporate inquiry-based learning techniques, where students actively explore mathematical concepts and discover solutions on their own or in collaboration with peers.
    • Use open-ended questions and challenges to foster a deeper understanding of mathematical principles and encourage independent thinking.
  • Use of Technology in Teaching

    • Integrate technology into lessons through interactive whiteboards, online platforms, graphing calculators, and mathematics software to enhance understanding and engagement.
    • Introduce students to digital tools for solving complex problems, such as mathematical modeling software or online math resources.
    • Encourage the use of technology for collaborative projects, research, or exploring advanced mathematical topics.
