Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery and Instruction

    • Develop and deliver engaging history lessons that cover various time periods, regions, and historical events, aligned with the school’s curriculum.
    • Teach key concepts in history, including historical events, figures, causes, consequences, and the development of civilizations.
    • Foster critical thinking by encouraging students to analyze historical events, interpret sources, and consider multiple perspectives on historical issues.
    • Create lesson plans that incorporate diverse teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, debates, group projects, and multimedia resources, to make history interesting and relevant to students.
  • Assessment and Monitoring Student Progress

    • Assess student understanding through a variety of methods, including written exams, essays, presentations, and projects.
    • Provide constructive feedback on students' work, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement in their historical analysis, writing, and presentations.
    • Track student progress and adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners, providing additional support to struggling students and enrichment activities for advanced learners.
    • Maintain records of student performance, including grades, attendance, and participation.
  • Classroom Management and Discipline

    • Create a respectful and structured classroom environment where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas, asking questions, and engaging in discussions.
    • Set clear expectations for behavior, participation, and academic integrity, ensuring students are motivated and focused.
    • Address classroom disruptions in a fair and effective manner, maintaining a positive and productive learning atmosphere.
    • Encourage open-mindedness and respectful dialogue, especially when discussing sensitive or controversial historical topics.
  • Encouraging Critical Thinking and Analysis

    • Promote the development of critical thinking skills by encouraging students to ask questions, analyze primary and secondary sources, and draw connections between past and present.
    • Teach students how to evaluate historical sources for reliability, bias, and context.
    • Use historical case studies, debates, and simulations to deepen students' understanding of history and its relevance to current global issues.
  • Differentiated Instruction

    • Differentiate instruction to cater to the diverse learning styles, abilities, and interests of students, ensuring that every student can engage with the content at an appropriate level.
    • Provide additional support to students with special educational needs (SEN) or English as a second language (ESL), using adapted resources or teaching strategies.
    • Offer opportunities for enrichment and independent research for advanced students or those interested in pursuing history further.

Proficiency in using educational technology to support teaching and enhance student engagement in history lessons.
Strong literacy and writing skills to teach students how to communicate historical ideas clearly and effectively.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex historical concepts in an accessible and engaging manner.
Ability to facilitate discussions and debates, encouraging students to think critically and express their ideas confidently.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
Ability to listen actively to students' questions, concerns, and feedback, responding appropriately and empathetically.
