Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Teaching and Instruction

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and informative Chemistry lessons aligned with the curriculum and educational standards.
    • Teach a range of topics in Chemistry, including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and analytical techniques, ensuring students develop a strong understanding of fundamental concepts.
    • Use a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, demonstrations, laboratory experiments, multimedia presentations, and interactive discussions to explain complex concepts in Chemistry.
    • Foster student curiosity and critical thinking by encouraging questions, exploring scientific principles, and relating Chemistry to real-world applications.
    • Encourage independent learning and scientific inquiry through assignments, research projects, and additional reading.
  • Curriculum Development and Implementation

    • Develop and regularly review Chemistry lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessment strategies to ensure they are up-to-date and meet the needs of all students.
    • Design and implement practical experiments in the laboratory, providing hands-on learning experiences for students to apply their theoretical knowledge.
    • Ensure the curriculum is comprehensive and includes all required topics, while also introducing additional material to extend students' learning.
    • Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit different learning styles, abilities, and student needs.
    • Integrate new developments and trends in Chemistry, such as sustainable chemistry and green chemistry practices, into the curriculum.
  • Assessment and Evaluation

    • Assess student progress through a variety of methods, including quizzes, written tests, homework, lab reports, and projects.
    • Provide constructive, actionable feedback to help students improve their performance and understanding.
    • Track and monitor student progress, identifying students who may require additional support or intervention.
    • Maintain accurate records of student performance, providing detailed reports to parents, guardians, and school leadership.
    • Offer additional guidance and support to students preparing for exams and major assessments.

Desired candidate profile

    • Previous experience teaching Chemistry at secondary school or higher education level.
    • Experience in conducting laboratory experiments and demonstrations in Chemistry.
    • Familiarity with national or regional science curriculum and exam board specifications.
    • Experience in providing support to students with varying abilities, including those with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Teaching Skills

    • Strong knowledge of Chemistry, including all major branches such as organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry.
    • Ability to break down complex scientific concepts into understandable lessons, making Chemistry accessible to all students.
    • Effective use of diverse teaching techniques and resources, including multimedia, hands-on experiments, and interactive learning platforms.
    • Strong skills in managing and overseeing practical laboratory work, ensuring student safety and effective learning.
    • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students, from those struggling with the material to those excelling in the subject.
  • Classroom Management Skills

    • Effective classroom management and the ability to maintain a focused, respectful, and productive learning environment.
    • Ability to engage students actively in both theoretical and practical components of Chemistry.
    • Strong organizational skills to manage classroom resources, materials, and student activities efficiently.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain difficult concepts clearly and effectively.
    • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students, encouraging them to participate in lessons and express curiosity about the subject.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with parents and colleagues, providing clear updates on student progress and collaborating on curriculum planning.
    • A good listener, able to respond to student questions, feedback, and concerns empathetically and constructively.
