Job Description

The Department of Music at Augsburg University invites applications for an adjunct faculty position to teach undergraduate and/or graduate music therapy courses in 2025. 

Available courses vary by term. Most undergraduate classes will be inperson whereas most graduate classes are hybrid meaning they will involve a combination of online and inperson classes. Equivalency and graduate courses are mostly online but may include 2 or 3 days inperson fullday (8:30 am to 4 pm) intensive classes on our Minneapolis campus. 

In addition to teaching the successful candidate will also be required to offer thesis advising to 5 10 students each term. The director of music therapy will consider the topic of the thesis and the candidates expertise and specialties to arrange the thesis advising work. The successful candidate will possess both a high level of intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation.

This search will establish a pool of instructors if such openings occur during Spring Summer or Fall of 2025. Applicants may be selected from this pool on an asneeded basis throughout the year. 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Subject to the collective bargaining agreement with SEIU Local 284
  • $5500 to $6550 per course*
  • Eligible for 11.5% retirement contribution match

*Course refers to a typical 4credit undergraduate or 3credit graduate course that has met minimum enrollment requirements.

Please note that due to employment law and payroll regulations we can only employ adjunct faculty who reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. This restriction applies even to courses taught online.


Qualifications :

Candidates should be committed to student engagement and student success with a diverse group of learners.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in music or psychology with at least one of three degrees specifically in music therapy (not equivalency cognate closely related area etc.) current CBMT certification and has at least five years of fulltime clinical experience in music therapy or its equivalent in parttime work.
  • ABD candidates may be considered if they can demonstrate proof that they will have their doctorate by the start day (Fall 2025).
  • The prospective candidate must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a PhD in music therapy and experience with clinical training supervision.
  • Preferred candidates will be able to demonstrate experience and/or potential for innovative pedagogy in preparing students to navigate the 21stcentury musical landscape.
  • The successful candidate will possess interpersonal and communication skills and be committed to working in a collegial and collaborative environment.
