You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Senior Director Strategy and M&A will lead the development of long term strategic plans for our Materials Group (MG) businesses (Label Materials Graphics Performance Materials) in North Asia (China Korea Japan). The role acts as the strategy and M&A leader on the North Asia leadership team. It works with the relevant functions and business leaders to assess business challenges and opportunities and drive implementation of both strategic and operational improvement initiatives. This role can be based in Guangzhou Shanghai or Kunshan and reports directly to the Vice President and General Manager for MG North Asia with a dotted line to the Vice President Strategy and M&A for MG Global.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a high potential with established professional experience (12 years) to shape the strategy of our business while optimizing its performance. You will:
Be a key thought partner to the VP/GM for North Asia and other members of the regional leadership team on both strategic questions as well as improvement opportunities and support with the respective initiatives
Directly lead the market research and sustainability teams
Partner with your peers on the leadership team to help them take a long term view while leveraging their business experience
Build and maintain a network within the organization as well as the ecosystem
Lead the annual strategic planning process: Shape the storyline structure the work support and challenge the functional leaders with their workstreams make sure financial projections tie back to the strategy
Develop and execute focused strategies for growing our business into adjacencies. Assess market structure trends and customer needs in particular in adjacent business spaces
Act as project lead for important strategic or business issues. This includes managing crossfunctional teams as well as deep diving into the business.
Work closely with the organization to identify acquisition opportunities which could help accelerate our strategies. Manage the M&A pipeline for MGNorth Asia and together with the corporate M&A team lead the M&A process (investment thesis target approach valuation due diligence negotiation signing closing and integration planning). Present the findings and recommendations to the M&A committee (composed of the CEO and the key leaders of the business)
Exchange experiences and best practices with your counterparts in Europe North America and South Asia.
As part of the corporate strategy team support at times with broader strategic assessments or M&A deals which cut across different regions and divisions.
Qualifications :
We are looking for someone with 12 years of related work experience preferably from both Management Consulting as well as working in a corporation who has a handson attitude is ready to dive deep into the business and can manage both long term growth and short term operational improvements. The candidate should be a strong team player able to influence without authority across a large matrixed organization.
Masters degree or PhD in science engineering business administration or economics
Ability to travel (1020% mostly within North Asia)
12 years of professional experience in Management Consulting or Corporate Roles with a mixture of strategic and operational improvement projects
Prior organizational leadership experience within corporations driving growth and performance of large complex teams
M&A experience is a plus
Collaborative work style and strong team player putting the success of the team ahead of own personal interests.
Comfortable to work in a technical environment (material science) and desire to understand technical issues in order to gain recognition
Can do attitude: strong personal drive and ability to work independently in multiple environments/cultures and get things done
Outstanding analytic and problem solving skills with affinity for quantitative modeling
Strong oral and written communications
Solid understanding of financial reporting (P&L balance sheet cash flow etc.)
Proficiency with DCF models. and metrics (NPV ROTC IRR )
Able to work at all levels of the organization and represent Avery Dennison in negotiations with business partners and acquisition targets.
Good business judgment with constant desire to learn
Excellent project management skills
Proficient in Mandarin and English
