The job holder carries out tasks to support the effective operation of the goods in and stores functions including; receipt of inward deliveries safe storage of stock and onward distribution and inward collection/management of items from laboratory teams. The job holder will be required to assist with goodsout/dispatch team when required.
Key Responsibilities
Stores:
- Work as part of the team to ensure the stores areas are kept clean organised and safe.
- Operate and maintain warehouse equipment and vehicles safely.
- Comply with health and safety regulations and company policies at all times.
Goods inwards:
- Assist in the receipt unloading and verifying deliveries of goods and chemicals at the loading bay from suppliers or carriers checking for accuracy.
- Assist with the administrative processing of goodsin including processing goods received notes invoices and raising purchase requisitions to cover the balance of invoices.
- Support in the organisation of goods in the delivery area for onward distribution and storage.
Stock Management:
- Sort and place materials on static racking and shelves according to established organisational processes.
- Conduct regular stock checks and participate in inventory audits as directed.
- Safe transportation of goods chemicals industrial gas cylinders to different areas of the site for storage and collection.
Internally distributions/collections:
- Deliver goods (including hospitality when required) and chemicals to the requesters and ensure they arrive at the correct location and completing necessary paperwork where appropriate.
- Deliver full industrial gas cylinders to laboratories / gas compound and collect empty cylinders and return them to the correct location completing necessary paperwork where appropriate. Help maintain bulk gas supplies when required.
- Deliver clean personal protective clothing to endusers and collect and package (appropriately) dirty items for laundry and complete necessary paperwork where appropriate.
- Deliver sorted mail from mail sorting point to mail drops throughout LGC Guildford site.
- Collect outgoing internal and external mail and deliver to the mail distribution point for sorting and onward distribution/dispatch.
- Collect waste (such as chemical and clinical) and prepare consignment for onward disposal or storage (including segregation of specialised waste).
Supporting Goodsout/Dispatch (as required)
- Assist with the fulfilment of orders shipping of goods and supporting paperwork (training provided) ensuring accuracy (following the four eyes principle) and timeliness prioritising orders as required.
- Support in dangerous goods related shipments (upon completion of the appropriate training program).
Person Specification:
- The job holder should work well as part of a small team and look to proactively initiate and implement improvements where required.
- Maintain an organised safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves pallet area and workstations neat and tidy.
- Work in accordance with LGCs health and safety quality assurance and security policies procedures and work instructions including the wearing of provided PPE where appropriate (completion of the appropriate training programs as provided).
- This is a physical role and requires staff to routinely lift deliveries using the correct equipment provided and follow manual handling and waste handling best practice (completion of the appropriate training programs will be provided) specifically:
- The role requires staff to be on their feet for a good proportion of the day.
- The candidate will have to regularly lift and/or move objects 4.522 kg and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 45kg with appropriate equipment and training.
- Frequently required to stand sit walk or stoop.
- Occasionally will be required to kneel crouch or crawl.
- You will need to be flexible to meet the needs of the back of house area covering Stores and Dispatch. LGC staff work a 37.5 hour a week.
Qualifications :
- GCSEs or equivalent.
- Previous stores/loading experience preferred.
- Good communication skills and work well within a small team.
- Ability to manage time effectively.
- Dependable and Reliable.
- Inventory data entry and good computer skills are required including MS Office 365.
- Forklift truck license (desirable).
- Experience in the safe handling of laboratory gases (desirable).
- Hold dangerous goods license (desirable).
Additional Information :
In regards to the location of the role you may initially be based at the Teddington site for training. However the Company is planning to permanently relocate its National Laboratories Teddington operations to The Priestley Centre Surrey Research Park Guildford around April 2025. Therefore please consider this when applying for this role.
