The IT Operations Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliable secure and efficient operation of an organizations IT infrastructure. They manage and maintain critical systems monitor performance and address technical challenges to support business needs. This role bridges technology and operations playing a vital part in achieving organizational goals by ensuring seamless IT operations.
Responsibilities:
System Operations and Maintenance
- Ensure the continuous availability of IT infrastructure including servers networks and storage systems.
- Perform regular maintenance activities such as updates patches and backups to maintain system health and security.
- Monitor IT systems to proactively identify and resolve issues minimizing downtime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware software and network issues in a timely manner.
Network Operations
- Manage and maintain network devices such as routers switches and firewalls
- Monitor network performance and optimize for reliability and speed
- Implement network configurations to ensure secure and efficient data flow
- Collaborate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) and ISPs to address connectivity or performance issues both proactively and reactively
IT Security
- Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard IT systems and data
- Configure firewalls intrusion detection/prevention systems and access control mechanisms
- Respond to and mitigate security incidents such as breaches or malware attacks.
System Monitoring and Optimization
- Making sure the data center s SLAs are followed
- Utilize monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios Zabbix PRTG) to oversee system and network health
- Analyze system logs and performance data to identify areas for improvement
- Recommend and implement strategies to optimize system and network efficiency
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of IT infrastructure configurations and processes
- Generate regular reports on system performance incidents and operational metrics.
- Develop and update IT policies and procedures as needed
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with crossfunctional teams including developers system administrators and business units to support IT needs
- Communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders
- Provide technical support and training to end users as required
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors or higher degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related fields
- Experience: 35 years of experience in IT infrastructure system administration or IT operations
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with operating systems (Linux/Unix) and associated technologies
- Handson experience with virtualization platforms and cloud computing
- Strong understanding of network protocols
- Familiarity with enterprise networking systems
- Familiarity with data center infrastructure and operations
- Knowledge of IT security practices and tools such as firewalls and antivirus solutions
- Tools and Certifications:
- Experience with IT monitoring and alerting tools
- Network security certifications are a plus.
