Job Overview:
A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is responsible for providing a wide range of accounting auditing tax and financial consulting services. They ensure compliance with financial regulations assist in financial reporting and offer strategic advice to clients or businesses. CPAs may work in public accounting firms corporations government agencies or as independent consultants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Analyze financial data and provide reports that help guide business decisionmaking.
- Review and validate the integrity of financial records.
- Tax Preparation and Planning:
- Prepare tax returns for individuals corporations and other entities.
- Provide tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities and maximize tax benefits.
- Ensure compliance with federal state and local tax laws.
- Auditing:
- Conduct audits of financial statements to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Assess internal controls and recommend improvements to financial processes.
- Consulting and Advisory Services:
- Offer strategic financial advice to businesses including cost management budgeting and forecasting.
- Assist with business mergers acquisitions and other financial transactions.
- Advise on corporate structure investment opportunities and financial risk management.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Keep up to date with changes in financial laws regulations and accounting standards.
- Ensure that the organization adheres to tax laws accounting standards and other regulatory requirements.
- Client Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with clients offering tailored solutions to meet their financial needs.
- Communicate complex financial concepts in clear terms to clients.
- Team Collaboration & Training:
- Supervise and mentor junior accountants and staff.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless financial operations.
- Stay informed on accounting technology and software to enhance workflow efficiency.
Required Skills:
- QuickBooks: Proficient in using QuickBooks for financial reporting bookkeeping and tax preparation.
- Audit Expertise: Extensive experience in managing audits and ensuring compliance with accounting and tax standards.
- YearEnd Close: Proven ability to manage and execute yearend close processes effectively.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Strong background in financial planning including budgeting forecasting and analysis to support business objectives.
Experience Required:
- Corporate Tax Experience: A minimum of 510 years of experience in corporate tax preparation and planning.
- Accounting Experience: At least 510 years of experience in accounting including audit yearend close and financial reporting.
Education & Certification:
- Bachelor s Degree: Must hold a Bachelor s degree in Finance Accounting or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA): Must hold an active CPA license.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred):
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to nonfinancial stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Experience with other accounting software and systems beyond QuickBooks is a plus.
- Experience working in a corporate environment particularly in finance or accounting departments.
