Education and Work Experience:
- Associate Degree or Certificate of Program Completion in Surgical Technology.
- Preferred: 2 years of relevant acute care experience.
Licenses/Certifications:
- National Board of Surgical Technologists or Association of Surgical Technologists certification: Required.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HSBLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Preferred.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery (NCCTST): Required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS OR HSBLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required.
Essential Functions:
- Verify the surgery to be performed with consent forms and escort the patient to the assigned operating room.
- Pass instruments to the surgeon during procedures and anticipate the surgeons needs for additional supplies.
- Perform appropriate counts with the circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is closed.
- Prepare sterile dressings and secure them after incision closure.
- Check supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure and obtain appropriate sterile and unsterile items.
- Set up a sterile table with instruments supplies equipment and medications/solutions needed for the procedure.
- Help drape the sterile field and clean/prep instruments for terminal sterilization.
- Assist other team members with cleaning the room for turnover and prepping for the next patient.
- Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned.
