Principal Piping Engineer

Roles and responsibilities

The requirement is to provide conceptual, basic, FEED and detailed engineering & design expertise related to Process Piping associated with modification and restoration of existing facilities ranging from minor field works to small, medium & large sized capital projects in Petroleum and Natural gas related industries.

It is mandatory to have sound experience in the work environment as mentioned above and must have the following skills / experience:

• Highly conversant with AutoCAD & E3D/PDMS.
• Reasonable exposure in MicroStation & S3D.
• Development and checking of Plot plan & Conceptual piping study.
• Development and checking of Equipment Layouts & Piping General Arrangement drawings.
• Checking of Isometrics, Vessel Trim drawings, Vessel clip drawings & Nozzle Orientation drawings etc.
• Checking of Pipe support drawings and Pipe Support Schedule.
• Checking of Valve Schedule and Tie-in Schedule.
• Preparation and Checking of Piping MTO and Pipe support MTO.
• Vendor drawings & documents review.
• 3D model review with client.
• Good knowledge in design reviews of Piping drawings submitted by Vendors / contractors.
• Onshore / Offshore Site survey and preparation of Site survey report.
• Coordination with clients, vendors, subcontractors & other internal disciplines.
• Resolution of site/ field/ construction contractor quarries.
• Attending various meetings.
• Proven experience to work as Lead Piping Designer.
• Capable to guide/ mentor a team of Piping Designers.
• Proficient in ASME B31 Code for Pressure Piping and other standards referred therein, ASME / API Standards, NACE and other international codes & standards.
• Good written & oral communication skills of English language as necessary for performing the above tasks.

Desired candidate profile

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 20 years of relevant experience in design & detailed engineering related to Process Piping for Oil & Gas (onshore & offshore) facilities.
Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, SP3D, PDMS, or SmartPlant.
Advanced knowledge of piping systems, stress analysis, and material selection.
Expertise in interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), isometrics, and general arrangement drawings.
4. Leadership and Communication Skills:
Strong leadership skills to manage teams and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams.
Excellent communication and presentation skills to interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
5. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
Strong problem-solving abilities to address design challenges and field issues effectively.
Ability to analyze and resolve technical discrepancies during design or construction phases.
6. Project Management Skills:
Proven ability to manage resources, budgets, and schedules for large-scale projects.
Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
7. Knowledge of Standards and Regulations:
Comprehensive understanding of piping codes, such as ASME B31.3 (Process Piping), ASME B31.1 (Power Piping), and API standards.
Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
