Roles and responsibilities
- Development of detailed Engineering deliverables of offshore structures, both Brownfield and Greenfield
- Provide technical and project execution services
- Produce structural deliverables in PDMS / Draft and E3D
Reporting lines and interactions
- Functionally reports to: HOD structural
-
Structural Design and Analysis:
- Design offshore structures such as oil rigs, drilling platforms, floating platforms, wind turbines, and subsea installations.
- Perform structural analysis to determine the strength, stability, and load-bearing capacity of offshore platforms and subsea systems.
- Utilize engineering software such as AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, SACS, and ANSYS to create detailed designs and conduct simulations.
-
Load Calculation and Stress Analysis:
- Calculate loads that the structure will experience, including environmental loads (wind, wave, seismic, ice), operational loads (equipment, personnel), and accidental loads (impact, explosions).
- Perform stress analysis to ensure that all components of the structure can withstand the applied loads over the expected lifespan of the platform or installation.
-
Materials Selection:
- Choose appropriate materials for offshore structures, considering factors such as corrosion resistance, strength, and durability in harsh marine environments.
- Ensure materials are compliant with industry standards and regulations, such as API, ISO, and AISC.
-
Design Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that designs comply with industry standards and regulations, including ISO 19901 (for offshore structures) and other relevant standards set by authorities such as API and DNV.
- Implement safety measures to protect the structure from potential environmental hazards, including seismic activity, strong winds, and extreme weather conditions.
-
Fatigue and Corrosion Management:
- Assess the fatigue resistance of structures due to repeated loading and environmental conditions, especially for long-term offshore installations.
- Implement corrosion prevention measures, such as coatings, cathodic protection, and material selection, to ensure the longevity and safety of structures exposed to seawater.
-
Inspection, Monitoring, and Maintenance:
- Develop and oversee structural inspection programs to monitor the integrity of offshore structures throughout their operational life.
- Work with offshore personnel to ensure that routine inspections and maintenance are carried out, and provide recommendations for repairs or upgrades when necessary.
-
Construction and Fabrication Support:
- Provide technical support during the fabrication and construction phases of offshore projects, ensuring that structures are built according to design specifications.
- Participate in site surveys and reviews to ensure the construction meets the approved design and safety standards.
- Collaborate with fabricators and contractors to resolve design issues that may arise during construction.
