Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Development of detailed Engineering deliverables of offshore structures, both Brownfield and Greenfield
  • Provide technical and project execution services
  • Produce structural deliverables in PDMS / Draft and E3D

Reporting lines and interactions

  • Functionally reports to: HOD structural
  • Structural Design and Analysis:

    • Design offshore structures such as oil rigs, drilling platforms, floating platforms, wind turbines, and subsea installations.
    • Perform structural analysis to determine the strength, stability, and load-bearing capacity of offshore platforms and subsea systems.
    • Utilize engineering software such as AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, SACS, and ANSYS to create detailed designs and conduct simulations.
  • Load Calculation and Stress Analysis:

    • Calculate loads that the structure will experience, including environmental loads (wind, wave, seismic, ice), operational loads (equipment, personnel), and accidental loads (impact, explosions).
    • Perform stress analysis to ensure that all components of the structure can withstand the applied loads over the expected lifespan of the platform or installation.
  • Materials Selection:

    • Choose appropriate materials for offshore structures, considering factors such as corrosion resistance, strength, and durability in harsh marine environments.
    • Ensure materials are compliant with industry standards and regulations, such as API, ISO, and AISC.
  • Design Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that designs comply with industry standards and regulations, including ISO 19901 (for offshore structures) and other relevant standards set by authorities such as API and DNV.
    • Implement safety measures to protect the structure from potential environmental hazards, including seismic activity, strong winds, and extreme weather conditions.
  • Fatigue and Corrosion Management:

    • Assess the fatigue resistance of structures due to repeated loading and environmental conditions, especially for long-term offshore installations.
    • Implement corrosion prevention measures, such as coatings, cathodic protection, and material selection, to ensure the longevity and safety of structures exposed to seawater.
  • Inspection, Monitoring, and Maintenance:

    • Develop and oversee structural inspection programs to monitor the integrity of offshore structures throughout their operational life.
    • Work with offshore personnel to ensure that routine inspections and maintenance are carried out, and provide recommendations for repairs or upgrades when necessary.
  • Construction and Fabrication Support:

    • Provide technical support during the fabrication and construction phases of offshore projects, ensuring that structures are built according to design specifications.
    • Participate in site surveys and reviews to ensure the construction meets the approved design and safety standards.
    • Collaborate with fabricators and contractors to resolve design issues that may arise during construction.

Desired candidate profile

  • Bachelor's degree in civil/ Structural Engineering
  • Minimum five – ten years’ engineering design consultancy experience of offshore platforms – both brownfield and greenfield.
  • Expertise in SACS
  • Familiarity with International codes and standards – API RP 2A, AISC, DNV
  • Excellent communication skills (both writing and speaking)
  • Nice to have:
  • Post Graduation in Offshore Engineering / Ocean Engineering (Preferable)
  • Experience in Navis Works, GRLWEAP, STAAD Pro., ANSYS, ABAQUS, MOSES, USFOS
  • Experience in the design of floating offshore structures
  • Exposure to Structural Fabrication, Yard Engineering, etc.
  • Experience in EPIC projects
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in engineering design software, such as STAAD.Pro, SACS, AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, ANSYS, and Revit.
    • Strong knowledge of structural design codes and standards, such as API, ISO, AISC, and DNV.
    • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for evaluating structural performance under complex loading conditions.
  • Understanding of Offshore Regulations:

    • In-depth knowledge of offshore design standards, including those for safety, stability, corrosion prevention, and fatigue analysis.
    • Familiarity with regulations and industry standards for offshore operations, such as those provided by ISO 19901, DNV GL, and API 650.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:

    • Strong ability to solve complex structural engineering problems, particularly related to offshore installations under challenging environmental conditions.
    • Proficiency in performing advanced structural analysis to predict performance and identify potential failure points.
