The IB PYP Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring that the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) is effectively implemented facilitating the holistic development of students aged 3 to 12. This position is integral to fostering an inquirybased learning environment that nurtures creativity critical thinking and a love for learning among young learners. The coordinator acts as a liaison between school leadership teachers students and parents promoting strong collaboration and communication throughout the school community. By providing training and support to faculty members the IB PYP Coordinator helps maintain high educational standards and ensures that the curriculum aligns with the IB philosophy. Furthermore this role involves assessing and evaluating the program s effectiveness making necessary adjustments to enhance learning outcomes. The IB PYP Coordinator must be a passionate advocate for international education and cultural understanding contributing to the overall mission of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of the IB PYP curriculum across all grade levels.
- Facilitate professional development workshops for educators to enhance their understanding of the PYP.
- Collaborate with faculty to design and evaluate unit plans and assessments.
- Coordinate the development of transdisciplinary units of inquiry.
- Support teachers in embedding inquirybased instructional strategies in their classrooms.
- Act as a resource for teachers regarding IB policies and procedures.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to enhance academic achievement.
- Coordinate assessment practices that align with the IB framework.
- Communicate effectively with parents and the community about the PYP philosophy and practices.
- Organize and supervise PYP related events such as exhibitions and community service projects.
- Update and maintain resources relevant to the PYP curriculum.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement among staff.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the PYP implementation and make recommendations for improvement.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with IB trends and practices.
- Prepare and manage the PYP Coordinator budget in collaboration with school administration.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor s degree in Education or a related field; Master s degree preferred.
- Certification in International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.
- Must be currently working as an IB PYP Coordinator/Assistant IB PYP Coordinator/Garde Level PYP Coordinator/Senior PYP Teacher
- At least 5 years of teaching experience preferably in an IB context.
- Experience in an administrative or leadership role related to curriculum coordination.
- Strong understanding of inquirybased learning and its application in education.
- Familiarity with assessment strategies aligned with the IB frameworks.
- Proficiency in using educational technology tools and platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and lifelong learning.
- Experience in leading professional development for educators.
- Knowledge of educational research and best practices in early childhood and primary education.
- Ability to build strong relationships with students staff and the community.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
