Overview
The Network Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Campus and Transport is a pivotal role within the organization responsible for ensuring the design implementation and optimization of our campus and transport network infrastructure. This position requires an extensive understanding of networking concepts methodologies and technologies to provide expert guidance and insight for complex network projects. The Network SME will collaborate with various teams to drive improvements and maintain key standards across the organizations network operations.
This role is essential as it contributes to the overall performance and reliability of the network facilitating seamless connectivity and communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. The Network SME will not only participate in the technical execution of initiatives but also mentor junior networking staff sharing knowledge and best practices while playing a critical role in strategic planning to meet the future needs of our growing network.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the architecture for campus and transport networks.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex network issues providing timely resolutions.
- Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to determine networking needs and solutions.
- Document network configurations and changes comprehensively.
- Oversee the installation and configuration of networking equipment ensuring compliance with best practices.
- Design and implement quality assurance practices for network performance and reliability.
- Provide technical expertise on network protocols and standards including TCP/IP VLANs and MPLS.
- Conduct network performance analysis to identify areas for improvement.
- Participate in the planning and execution of network upgrades and expansions.
- Mentor and support junior networking team members to enhance team skills.
- Engage in vendor evaluations and technical assessments of new networking technologies.
- Ensure security measures are integrated into network design and operations.
- Coordinate and document network disaster recovery plans and testing.
- Maintain uptodate knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Assist in budget preparation for network projects and upgrades.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology Engineering or a related field.
- 10 years of experience in network engineering or a related role.
- Proven experience with Cisco networking technologies (CCNP/CCIE certification preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of network protocols including BGP OSPF STP.
- Experience implementing and managing largescale transport networks.
- Strong understanding of network security practices and tools.
- Excellent problemsolving and analytical skills.
- Proficient in network monitoring and performance optimization tools.
- Ability to document processes and procedures effectively.
- Strong project management skills and experience with network design projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g. CompTIA Network Juniper certifications) are a plus.
- Experience with cloud networking and virtualization technologies is a plus.
- Understanding of current IT compliance standards and regulations.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
