Roles and responsibilities
1. Teaching and Curriculum Delivery
- Lesson Planning: Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans based on the school curriculum. Lessons should include activities that promote learning in subjects such as mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, and creative arts.
- Subject Instruction: Teach core subjects such as:
- Language Arts: Reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
- Mathematics: Basic arithmetic, number concepts, shapes, measurement, and problem-solving.
- Science: Simple scientific principles, hands-on experiments, and understanding the world around them.
- Social Studies: Introduction to geography, history, cultural studies, and community awareness.
- Arts and PE: Promote creativity through art, music, and physical education, encouraging students to express themselves.
- Differentiated Instruction: Adapt teaching methods to accommodate the diverse needs of students, including those with learning disabilities, English language learners, and gifted students.
2. Classroom Management
- Behavior Management: Set clear expectations for classroom behavior and enforce rules fairly and consistently. Use positive reinforcement and constructive discipline techniques to promote good behavior and responsibility.
- Establishing a Positive Learning Environment: Create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive classroom that encourages students to take risks, ask questions, and express their ideas without fear of judgment.
- Time Management: Effectively manage classroom routines, transitions, and activities to maximize learning time while maintaining order.
- Conflict Resolution: Help students develop social skills by guiding them in resolving conflicts and interacting with peers in a respectful and considerate manner.
3. Assessment and Progress Tracking
- Formative Assessment: Regularly assess students’ progress through quizzes, assignments, oral presentations, group work, and individual projects. Use these assessments to identify areas for improvement and adapt teaching strategies.
- Summative Assessment: Administer tests and exams to evaluate students' understanding of topics taught throughout a unit or term.
- Individual Progress Reports: Maintain detailed records of each student’s academic achievements, strengths, and areas for growth. Provide feedback to students and parents.
- Parent-Teacher Communication: Regularly update parents on their child’s progress, discussing achievements, challenges, and any support needed. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and be available for consultations as needed.
4. Student Support and Well-being
- Emotional and Social Development: Support students in developing self-esteem, confidence, and emotional intelligence. Help them navigate social interactions, encourage positive relationships, and model empathy.
- Inclusive Practices: Ensure that all students, regardless of background or ability, feel included in the classroom. Provide extra support or accommodations for students who need it, and foster an environment of respect for diversity.
- Health and Safety: Ensure that students’ physical and emotional well-being is supported. Be aware of child protection policies, first aid procedures, and other safety measures.
- Encouraging Independence: Help students develop organizational and study skills, as well as the ability to work independently and manage their own learning.
Desired candidate profile
- A passion for providing outstanding teaching and driven to provide education at an exceptional level. Teachers enjoy an outstanding school environment in which to deliver a dynamic and creative curriculum to motivated students.
- Teachers are expected to have a current license/certification in their home country with a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience.
- IBPYP experience is preferred.
- Aspiration to work in a world class school with real prospects for enhancing their career.
