Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Teaching and Curriculum Delivery

  • Lesson Planning and Delivery: Develop and deliver engaging, informative, and comprehensive psychology lessons based on the curriculum. Tailor lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners, ensuring all students can access the content and develop an interest in psychology.
  • Curriculum Design and Development: Adapt and implement the psychology curriculum (e.g., for GCSE, A-level, IB, or college-level courses) to ensure it is relevant, engaging, and up-to-date with the latest psychological research and theory.
  • Practical Application: Incorporate practical activities, experiments, case studies, and research projects into lessons to give students hands-on experience with psychology concepts and methods.
  • Differentiation: Modify lessons and instructional materials to accommodate students with varying learning styles, abilities, and needs, including those with special educational needs (SEN).

2. Student Assessment and Support

  • Formative and Summative Assessment: Create, administer, and grade assessments (e.g., tests, quizzes, essays, projects) to evaluate student understanding and progress. Use assessment data to inform future teaching.
  • Feedback and Support: Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, exams, and class activities. Offer additional support and guidance to students struggling with the material or requiring enrichment.
  • Student Mentorship: Act as a mentor for students, offering advice and support on academic, personal, and career-related issues. Help students develop study skills and research abilities, particularly for higher-level assignments and exams.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track students’ academic progress and behavior, keeping records up-to-date and communicating with parents or guardians about student development and performance.

3. Classroom Management and Environment

  • Classroom Organization: Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive classroom environment. Establish clear rules and expectations for student behavior, ensuring the psychology classroom remains a safe and supportive space for learning.
  • Student Engagement: Use a variety of teaching methods (e.g., group work, discussions, multimedia presentations) to actively engage students and foster an interest in psychology.
  • Technology Integration: Incorporate technology into the learning process, utilizing tools like learning management systems (LMS), psychology-related software, and multimedia resources to enhance lessons.

4. Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Continual Professional Growth: Stay current with developments in the field of psychology, including new theories, research, and educational practices. Participate in professional development opportunities (e.g., workshops, conferences, courses) to improve teaching practice and knowledge.
  • Collaboration: Work with other psychology teachers, school leadership, and departments (e.g., science, social studies) to share resources, teaching strategies, and ensure interdisciplinary connections.
  • Student Enrichment: Organize and participate in extracurricular activities related to psychology, such as psychology clubs, guest speakers, or field trips to further engage students with the subject.

  • Subject Expertise: Strong knowledge of psychological theories, research methods, and key topics (e.g., cognitive psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, abnormal psychology).
