The Neuroimmunology Group (Multiple Sclerosis Centre of Catalonia) at Vall dHebron Hospital is seeking a PhD student to apply for the PFIS programme which will be announced in February 2025 by the Instituto Carlos III. The selected candidate will focus on developing a human in vitro model to investigate the pathophysiology of the autoimmune disorder associated with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOGAD disease) within a leading centre dedicated to neuroimmunological disorders.
Education and qualifications:
Required:
- A university degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in the field of health sciences (biomedicine pharmacy biochemistry medicine or biology) recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education or the relevant authority.
- Specialist training through the MIR system in neurology or another specialty.
- Fluency in English
Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- Minimum experience in laboratory research as part of their undergraduate programme.
- Experience using the Microsoft Office suite (including Excel Word etc.).
- Knowledge of statistics and experience with statistical software packages.
- Strong sense of responsibility initiative selfmotivation and teamwork skills.
Desired:
- Excellent academic records.
- Scientific publications in indexed journals.
- Conference abstracts presented at international congresses
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Cell manipulation in human in vitro cultures (generation of human oligodendrocytes and neurones generation of iPSCderived microglia etc.).
- Purification of antibodies from human serum.
- Flow cytometry handling.
- Immunohistochemistry.
- Management of cytokine platforms (ELISA ELLA system etc.).
- Organization of followup meetings with supervisors.
- Drafting of abstracts for conferences and scientific articles.
- Onsite work (80%).
- Absolute respect towards supervisors colleagues staff fellow students and patients
