CK Group are recruiting for a Materials Specialist, to join a materials manufacturing company, at their site based near Coventry, on a full time, permanent basis.
The Company: With approximately 250 staff company-wide, the company is looking for an experienced materials specialist to join their team due to growth. The Materials Team are responsible for ensuring raw material quality and performance so that the company s products perform to the required standard. The successful candidate will check, assess, and monitor all raw material properties that can influence and/ or affect the quality of manufactured products, and will also support New Product Introduction and performance improvement as required. Our client offers a salary of 30,000- 35,000pa depending on experience, as well as 31 days holiday including bank holidays, pension scheme, private medical and discretionary bonus. Ad hoc travel will be required in this role.
Location: The Materials Technologist will be based at the company's site near Coventry, easily commutable from Warwick, Rugby, Birmingham, Leicester amongst other locations. Please note a full driving licence and own vehicle are required for this role.
Your main duties will be to:- Support material research projects through continual material testing such as FTIR, Karl Fischer, compressive strength test, humidity chambers, Binders, Shore A test equipment, etc.
- Support material and/ or process trials as required.
- Conduct regular material testing on batches.
- Collect, process, and analyse laboratory data to highlight trends, patterns, or any anomalies.
- Support material or quality issues within the plant as required. Undertake problem solving with small teams to resolve issues.
- Conduct analytical investigations into products if a defect has been found.
Your Background: The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and experience:
- Experienced material testing technician with knowledge of metals, paints, concretes, elastomers, mould and release, or similar.
- Ideally holds a recognised scientific qualification (e.g. Degree/ HNC/ HND or equivalent).
- Experience of laboratory and production line environments and working with chemicals, and able to demonstrate practical and technical knowledge in chemical handling and testing.
- Technical knowledge and experience of using laboratory testing equipment including FTIR, Karl Fischer, compressive strength test, humidity chambers, Binders, Shore A test equipment etc.
- Experience of working to operating standards, e.g. ASTM, SOPs, etc.
- Able to fault finding & problem-solve.
- Experience of producing & maintaining documents such as written reports and validation documents.
- Ability to train test methods and procedures as appropriate.
- Any knowledge of polyurethane production methods would be advantageous.
- Decisive thinker able to work within agreed timescales and use their initiative to complete tasks.
- Resilient and happy to grow and develop in this role.
- Able to demonstrate they are able to learn new tasks and testing techniques and communicate effectively to all levels.
- Driving licence with own transport.
