Our partner in the environmental consulting industry is looking to add an experienced Senior Ecologist/Wetland Delineation expert to their team to help support project leadership.

The Senior Ecologist will be a technical lead and will work on reporting and providing direction for the ecological department including employees contractors and subcontractors of other firms. The Senior Ecologist will facilitate a team effort of planning design and consulting projects related to wetlands and water quality of streams and lakes handling up to 10 projects of varying sizes at any given time.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identification of jurisdictional wetlands classification and delineation of wetlands and streams and determination of mitigation requirements to support the environmental permitting of various projects.
- Preparation of Clean Water Act Sections 404 and 401 permit applications as well as Section 408 from the US Army Corps of Engineers and Coastal Use Permits from state regulatory agencies.
- Conducting biological and ecological resource studies including wildlife habitat assessments listed threatened and endangered species assessments native and invasive plant vegetation surveys and wetland mitigation monitoring.
- Task and project management including conducting environmental inspections for compliance with permit conditions such as NPDES stormwater compliance wetland permits navigable waters permit and other state and federal environmental regulations including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations.
- Preparation of environmental documents to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA): environmental resource reports Environmental Assessments (EA) and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS).
- Assist with developing work plans the evaluation of data and preparation of a variety of technical documents and environmental permit applications.
- Data analysis including preparation of maps and figures using GIS/Environmental Visualization Software (EVS) applications and database management.
- Preparation for and participation in meetings with clients regulatory personnel and other parties.
- Management of staff and subcontractors.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in environmental science geology engineering or similar field
- Certified Wetland Specialist (CWS) in at least one collar county of Chicago or in Wisconsin Required.
- Wetland delineation training according to Army Corps methodology preferred.
- CESSWI certification or similar demonstration of erosion control proficiency preferred.
- 810 years of direct environmental permitting & planning experience preferably consulting in the Midwest marketplace preferred
- Experience with federal permitting programs such as the Clean Water Act and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) 404 wetland permitting process preferred
- Experience performing site visits collecting field data and preparing technical reports for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) preferred
- Technical experience in conducting stream and wetland delineations and ability to perform the lead delineator role preferred.
- Ability to succeed in a fastpaced consulting environment handling multiple project assignments concurrently meeting strict deadlines and traveling to client facilities as needed.
- Strong knowledge of native flora and fauna of the eastern U.S.
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to prepare scientific reports and permit applications in accordance with state and federal standards.
- Experience with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Comfort with field work and overnight travel
- Valid U.S. driver s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.
