OCU is Seeking an experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team based in our Reading and Finchampstead office. As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will play a crucial role in supporting the quantity surveying team in managing costs and contracts associated with construction projects. This role requires a detailoriented individual with strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of construction processes and contracts. The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will work closely with senior quantity surveyors and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed within budgetary constraints and to the required quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing cost estimates for projects based on architectural drawings specifications and other relevant information.
- Support in the preparation of project budgets including materials labor and other expenses.
- Monitor project costs and provide regular updates to the quantity surveying team.
- Assist in the tendering process including preparing tender documents analyzing bids and evaluating subcontractor proposals.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for materials and services.
- Support in negotiating contracts and agreements with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of construction contracts including variations claims and valuations.
- Monitor contract compliance and identify any discrepancies or issues that may arise.
- Assist in resolving disputes or conflicts related to contracts in collaboration with the quantity surveying team and project stakeholders.
- Support in monitoring project expenditure and identifying areas where costs can be reduced or optimized.
- Assist in preparing cost reports and forecasts to track project performance against budgetary targets.
- Collaborate with project managers and site teams to ensure that costs are managed effectively throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist in measuring and quantifying work for valuation purposes using appropriate measurement methods.
- Support in preparing interim and final valuations for payment to contractors and subcontractors.
- Verify and certify payments to ensure that they accurately reflect the work completed in accordance with contractual terms.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities associated with construction projects and communicate them to the quantity surveying team.
- Assist in implementing risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of risks on project outcomes.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelors degree in quantity surveying construction management or a related field.
- Previous experience in a similar role or relevant internship experience is desirable.
- Strong understanding of contracts procurement processes and cost management principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
