Job Description

  • Initial Contract Duration: 12 months

    Office location is capital city of selected states. The expectation is in the office for first 6 weeks before a flexible working arrangement will be considered usually a minimum of 3 days/week onsite.

SoftLabs is seeking Lead Technology Architect for ICT Labour hire at their technology consulting based in ACT.





Job details

Technology Architects determine the appropriate technologies to be used in the service development and delivery environment. They monitor emerging technologies and plan technology exploration implementation and retirement.

Technology Architects are also known as Infrastructure Engineers.

Senior Infrastructure Engineering Experts will be accountable for the design implementation and operation of the agency s Data Centre network infrastructure including Cisco ACI Cisco Nexus F5 network appliances and associated routing and switching.

Senior Infrastructure Engineering Experts operate with a significant degree of independence and work under the broad guidance of a National Manager to deliver quality outcomes. They operate with a high level of autonomy with decisionmaking highly dependent on their own judgement.

In performing a leadership role Senior Infrastructure Engineering Experts identify and drive innovation manage and lead change and have an active role in contributing to and implementing the agency s strategic direction.

They should be able to articulate the appropriate technologies and architecture to be used to meet the agency s desired outcomes.

A Senior Infrastructure Engineering Expert should have experience in mentoring staff recognising recording and distributing knowledge within the team through various means of communication.





Key duties and responsibilities

Duties may include some or all of the following:

  • Plan and manage infrastructure requirements to meet future infrastructure demand
  • Ensure the provision of infrastructure related operational support for hardware software and other assets
  • Define effective procedures for prioritisation and escalation of infrastructure issues to ensure timely resolution
  • Communicate endtoend implications of configuration changes
  • Analyse the quality of requests for change management
  • Provide detailed specialist technical advice including strategic advice to the Executive where appropriate
  • Proactively share knowledge and expertise as the subject matter expert and provide assistance and mentorship to less experienced colleagues
  • Develop and implement standards strategies operational policy and procedures and change initiatives
  • Oversee operations of teams including providing a clear sense of direction setting work priorities and managing resources
  • Develop staff capability through coaching mentoring and succession planning
  • Negotiate with suppliers and thirdparty vendors in the purchase of technology equipment
  • Oversee the development delivery and performance of contracted goods and services
  • Oversee team contribution to cost analysis activities
  • Oversee review and advise on a range of technical documentation including design documentation implementation plans test plans and support procedures
  • Negotiate engage and manage relationships with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability
  • Attend interagency meetings and forums to influence business outcomes and share information
  • Drive innovation continuous improvement and manage and lead change
  • Set direction by contributing to local business plans and ICT strategies
  • Exercise delegations in accordance with legislation and guidelines




Technical skills

1. Experience in the development of network highlevel designs and detailed designs.
2. Experience in the design management and maintenance of large or enterprise scale data centre networking and ACI environments.
3. Extensive experience in creating and deploying ACI configuration.
4. Knowledge in ACI network automation and programming languages.
5. Experience in the development of network highlevel designs and detailed designs.
6. Highly developed diagnostic and problemsolving skills.





Criteria

Essential Criteria

1. Emerging technology monitoring: Level 6 (SFIA)

Plans and leads the identification and assessment of emerging technologies and the evaluation of potential impacts threats and opportunities. Creates technology roadmaps that align organisational plans with emerging technology solutions. Engages with and influences relevant stakeholders to obtain organisational commitment to technology roadmaps. Develops organisational guidelines for monitoring emerging technologies. Collaborates with internal and external parties to facilitate intelligence gathering.

2. Information security: Level 3 (SFIA)

Applies and maintains specific security controls as required by organisational policy and local risk assessments. Communicates security risks and issues to business managers and others. Performs basic risk assessments for small information systems. Contributes to the identification of risks that arise from potential technical solution architectures. Suggests alternate solutions or countermeasures to mitigate risks. Defines secure systems configurations in compliance with intended architectures. Supports investigation of suspected attacks and security breaches.

3. Innovation: Level 5 (SFIA)

Manages the innovation pipeline and executes innovation processes. Develops and adapts innovation tools processes and infrastructures to drive the process of innovation. Identifies resources and capabilities needed to support innovation. Encourages and motivates innovation communities teams and individuals to share creative ideas and learn from failures. Manages and facilitates the communication and open flow of creative ideas between interested parties and the setup of innovation networks and communities.

4. Solution architecture: Level 4 (SFIA)

Contributes to the development of solution architectures in specific business infrastructure or functional areas. Identifies and evaluates alternative architectures and the tradeoffs in cost performance and scalability. Determines and documents architecturally significant decisions. Produces specifications of cloudbased or onpremises components tiers and interfaces for translation into detailed designs using selected services and products. Supports projects or change initiatives through the preparation of technical plans and application of design principles. Aligns solutions with enterprise and solution architecture standards (including security).

5. Specialist advice: Level 5 (SFIA)

Provides definitive and expert advice in their specialist area. Actively maintains recognised expert level knowledge in one or more identifiable specialisms. Oversees the provision of specialist advice by others. Consolidates expertise from multiple sources including thirdparty experts to provide coherent advice to further organisational objectives. Supports and promotes the development and sharing of specialist knowledge within the organisation.

6. Systems design: Level 5 (SFIA)

Designs large or complex systems and undertakes impact analysis on major design options and tradeoffs. Ensures that the system design balances functional and nonfunctional requirements. Reviews systems design and ensures that appropriate methods tools and techniques are applied effectively. Makes recommendations and assesses and manages associated risks. Adopts and adapts system design methods tools and techniques. Contributes to development of system design policies standards and selection of architecture components.





Desirable Criteria

1. Consultancy: Level 6 (SFIA)

Manages the provision of consultancy services and/or a team of consultants. In own areas of expertise provides advice and guidance to consultants and/or the client when delivering consultancy services. Engages with clients and maintains client relationships. Establishes consultancy agreements/contracts and manages completion and disengagement.

2. Enterprise and business architecture: Level 5 (SFIA)

Develops models and plans to drive the execution of the business strategy taking advantage of opportunities to improve business performance. Contributes to creating and reviewing a systems capability strategy which meets the businesss strategic requirements. Determines requirements and specifies effective business processes through improvements in technology information or data practices organisation roles procedures and equipment.

3. Information assurance: Level 5 (SFIA)

Interprets information assurance and security policies and applies these to manage risks. Provides advice and guidance to ensure adoption of and adherence to information assurance architectures strategies policies standards and guidelines. Plans organises and conducts information assurance and accreditation of complex domains areas crossfunctional areas and across the supply chain. Contributes to the development of policies standards and guidelines.

4. Network design: Level 6 (SFIA)

Takes responsibility for major aspects of network specification standards technologies and overall network design models within the organisation. Produces network design policies principles and criteria covering connectivity capacity interfacing security resilience recovery and access.

5. Requirements definition and management: Level 4 (SFIA)

Defines and manages scoping requirements definition and prioritisation activities for initiatives of medium size and complexity. Contributes to selecting the requirements approach. Facilitates input from stakeholders provides constructive challenge and enables effective prioritisation of requirements. Establishes requirements baselines obtains formal agreement to requirements and ensures traceability to source.
