Job Description

Job Purpose

The Cost Controller ensures effective financial management and cost efficiency across projects operations or departments within the organization. This role involves monitoring analyzing and reporting on expenditures identifying costsaving opportunities and ensuring budgetary compliance to optimize financial performance.

The Cost Controller will collaborate with crossfunctional teams to establish cost control systems track expenses and support decisionmaking through accurate and timely financial data. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the organizations profitability by minimizing waste enhancing resource allocation and driving cost accountability.


Overall Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demand/ inventory forecasting to avoid stock pile up and stock outs
  • Key details in back end to ensure updated pricing
  • Inventory stock takesdaily for bar
  • Order compilations
  • Ownership of ancillary P&L working with the finance department
  • Ownership of billing (daily ancillary) and prompt ancillary supplier payments
  • Custodian of all items stock working with stores man
  • Work with kitchen/ F&B on meal costings/ pricing
  • Liaise with Events team to analyse cost per event
  • Own actual vs budget variances for ancillary
  • Ensure goods billed are received with proper and complete documentation
  • Ensure stock value is accurately maintained and sign off inventory sheets
  • Sign off all purchase requisitions for the stores liaising with right channels
  • Work with kitchen/ F&B on returns of all damaged/ spoilt store items
  • Ensure store area is kept clean safe and only authorized personnel are allowed
  • Daily stock issuances/ replacements every morning
  • Responsible for dispatch and receipts of items to other centres/ events
  • Raise any vendor challenges with the right channels for action and followups
  • Determine for all storage items what the minimum order quantity (MOQ) is
  • Measure and report on any defects in process including wastage and pilferage
  • Ensure afterhours lock of all unsold items
  • Develop internal control procedures in liaison with F&B team and Finance team
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures relating to food and beverage items
  • Accurate records keeping of all items including regular updating of bin card
  • Identify and report any slowmoving items to avoid over purchasing
  • Identify and flag any items approaching expiry
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the supervisor



Requirements

  • Education:

    • Bachelor s degree in Finance Accounting Business Administration Economics or a related field.
    • Professional certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) or CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) are highly preferred.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 5 years of relevant experience in cost control financial analysis budgeting or accounting.
    • Experience in hospitality or other industries requiring stringent cost management is an advantage.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in financial and accounting software (e.g. SAP QuickBooks or Oracle).
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel including data analysis pivot tables and financial modeling.
    • Knowledge of cost control systems and tools.
  • Knowledge:

    • Solid understanding of financial principles cost management and budgeting techniques.
    • Familiarity with Kenyan tax regulations labor laws and statutory compliance requirements.
    • Industryspecific knowledge relevant to the organization (e.g. construction costing hospitality operations).
  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with teams and stakeholders.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Certifications and Memberships (Optional):

    • Membership in professional bodies such as ICPAK (Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya) or ACCA Kenya is advantageous.
