The individual will follow the VRS Hybrid work schedule including 2 days onsite per week (Tuesday and Wednesday). The individual may also be called to be onsite for critical meetings and data related discussions. Onsite work will be at the VRS central office at 1200 East Main Street Richmond Virginia 23219The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Data Office team isseeking up to two (2) senior level Power BI/SQL Developers with strong problemsolving organizational and communication skills. This role will be expected to collaboratewith the Data Office Business IT and other stakeholders and play an activerole in the Data Quality Enhancement initiative. The individual is expected tobe a selfstarter who is comfortable prioritizing and effectively managingtheir daily workload.
EssentialDuties and Responsibilities:
Assist withoverall Power BI/SQL Support (development performance process documentation)related to the Data Quality Enhancement initiative and other development efforts as needed. Activitiesinclude:
Maintain the confidentiality of all business data and adhere to VRS datasecurity policies.
Meet all deliverables withing the agreed upon timeframe.
Provide regular status updates and attend various meetings as required.
Develop design and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards based onbusiness requirements.
Create interactive visualizations reports dashboards that assist witheffective monitoring of Critical Data Elements.
Advise on best practices in data visualization and report optimization.
Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their data needsand translate into actionable reports.
Develop optimize and maintain SQL queries and stored procedures fordata retrieval and manipulation.
Develop DAX queries to enhance the performance and functionality ofreports.
Develop reports to support KPIs and other performance indicators.
Provide training and support to endusers on Power BI and SQL tools.
Review existing SQL Queries Execution Plans Partitions and Index(s)to determine performance enhancements for long running queries.
Provide alternative options to existing data manipulation techniques.Examples would be converting Excel manipulation activities into solutions thatreduce process/cycle time of data preparation.
Specialprojects at the direction of the Chief Operating Officer or Data Officer.
Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum 5 years of handson experience in developing reports dashboards and datavisualizations using Power BI.
Minimum 5 years of handson experience in SQL Server SQL developmentincluding writing complex queries stored procedures and performance tuning.
Experience in writing complex DAX queries.
Experience with MS SQL Server data modelling and schema design.
Experience working in an Agile development environment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team that includesbusiness and technical stakeholders.
Excellent problemsolving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Desired Skills:
Experience in Pensions Benefit Management programs.
Experience with other BI tools (e.g. Tableau QlikView).
Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure AWS).
Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or equivalent.
Other relevant certifications in SQL Data Analysis and databasemanagement.
Educationand/or Experience
Bachelors degree from a fouryear collegeor university preferred and 5 years experience with technology or data organizationsrequired.
This will be a contract position starting with a periodof at least 6 months. To be effectivethis resource would need to be available within the next 6 weeks. VRS desires to interview proposed individualsbefore final approval.
