Job Description
Architects are responsible for the planning and design of buildings and other structures and ensure they are safe functional and built with the public welfare in mind. Their duties include:
Meeting with clients: Determining the clients objectives and requirements for the structure
Providing estimates: Giving preliminary estimates on cost and construction time
Preparing specifications: Preparing structure specifications
Directing workers: Directing workers who prepare drawings and documents
Preparing drawings: Preparing scaled drawings either with computer software or by hand
Providing technical advice: Providing technical and aesthetic advice on the design of infrastructures
To become an architect you typically need:
A bachelors or masters degree in architecture
A strong foundation in design principles architectural theory and building technology
Proficiency in design software like AutoCAD Revit and SketchUp
Licensure to practice architecture which involves passing the Architect Registration Examination (ARE)
Relevant experience through internships or working in architectural firms
A strong portfolio showcasing previous projects
