Position Overview
The Head of Department (HOD) Spanish & World Languages will oversee the Spanish language department and provide strategic leadership across the World Languages Department which includes Spanish French German Hindi and Tamil. The role requires a dynamic leader with a strong academic background administrative acumen and the ability to manage multiple curricula including IBDP MYP IGCSE and ICSE. The ideal candidate should be adept at preparing students for internal and external board examinations and fostering a culture of linguistic excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership:
- Design implement and evaluate the Spanish curriculum across IBDP MYP IGCSE and ICSE frameworks.
- Oversee the curriculum development and implementation for other world languages ensuring alignment with international and national standards.
- Guide language faculty in incorporating innovative and culturally relevant teaching methodologies.
- Stay updated on curriculum advancements examination guidelines and language pedagogy for all languages under the department.
Teaching & Learning:
- Deliver highquality instruction in Spanish while supporting faculty in other languages to achieve similar standards.
- Facilitate crosslanguage integration and interdisciplinary teaching initiatives.
- Mentor and guide teachers to enhance their pedagogical approaches and technology usage.
Board Exam Management:
- Plan and ensure the successful completion of syllabus for all languages with adequate preparation and revision for board exams.
- Liaise with examination boards for Spanish and other languages ensuring compliance with their requirements.
- Oversee examrelated logistics including registrations documentation and student readiness.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Lead the World Languages Department ensuring effective coordination and collaboration among language teams.
- Manage departmental operations including timetabling resource allocation and teacher workload distribution.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on departmental goals performance reviews and faculty development plans.
- Maintain records of student performance department budgets and resource inventories.
Student Development:
- Foster cultural appreciation through activities such as language clubs international exchanges and cultural festivals.
- Support students language acquisition journeys providing academic guidance and opportunities for language immersion.
Team Management:
- Recruit train and evaluate language teachers fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Organize regular departmental meetings and professional development workshops.
Key Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
- Master s degree in Spanish Language Literature or a related field.
- Teaching qualifications such as a B.Ed. or equivalent certification.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching Spanish across IBDP MYP IGCSE and ICSE curricula.
- Proven leadership experience managing a team or heading a department.
Skills and Competencies:
- Expertise in curriculum design assessment and pedagogy for multiple curricula.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in board exam preparation and management across various curricula.
- Leadership abilities to inspire and manage a multilingual team.
- Excellent communication and crosscultural understanding.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in IBDP MYP or IGCSE training workshops.
- Experience in managing language programs or departments with multiple curricula and languages.
