Job Description: Summer Distressed Debt Associate
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Summer Distressed Debt Associate to join our investment team for a 10 12 week internship program. This internship offers an immersive experience in distressed debt investing providing exposure to credit analysis restructuring strategies and portfolio management across a diverse range of industries. As a Summer Associate you will work closely with senior professionals on live transactions and strategic initiatives gaining valuable insights into special situations and turnaround investments.
Key Responsibilities: Investment Research and Analysis:
- Analyze distressed debt opportunities by reviewing financial statements credit structures and recovery scenarios.
- Develop and refine financial models to evaluate cash flow forecasts liquidation values and potential returns.
- Conduct market and industry research to assess trends risks and opportunities.
- Assist in preparing detailed investment memoranda and presentations for internal investment committees.
Due Diligence and Transaction Execution:
- Participate in due diligence efforts including financial operational and legal reviews.
- Collaborate with internal and external advisors to evaluate risk factors and develop investment theses.
- Support the structuring and negotiation of transaction terms covenants and agreements.
- Assist in managing transaction documentation and coordinating communications with stakeholders.
Portfolio Management:
- Monitor the financial and operational performance of portfolio investments.
- Collaborate with management teams and restructuring advisors to execute turnaround strategies and enhance value.
- Prepare performance updates and strategic recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
Collaboration and Learning:
- Work closely with senior team members on strategic projects and live investment opportunities.
- Participate in team discussions on distressed debt strategies restructuring approaches and special situations investing.
- Gain exposure to the full investment lifecycle from deal sourcing to execution and portfolio management.
Qualifications: Educational Background:
- Currently pursuing an MBA or other advanced degree in Finance Economics Business Administration or a related field.
- Strong academic performance with a demonstrated interest in distressed debt special situations or private credit.
Professional Experience:
- 2 4 years of experience in investment banking private credit restructuring advisory or related fields is preferred.
- Familiarity with financial modeling credit analysis and restructuring principles is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
- Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills with proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly.
- Proficiency in financial databases such as Bloomberg Preqin or S&P Capital IQ is preferred.
