Job Description: Addiction Engagement Counselor
Location: Vancouver WA (Hybrid)
Schedule: 4x10 shifts Monday: 10 AM8 PM Tuesday: 9 AM7 PM Wednesday: 8 AM6 PM Thursday: 8 AM6 PM (with potential flexibility)
Employment Type: Permanent FullTime
Compensation: As per Exp.

Position Summary:

The Addiction Engagement Counselor serves as the initial point of contact for members referred to the Addiction Medicine Department. You will provide engagement assessment counseling and case management services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders (SUD). Working in a multidisciplinary team you will support patients at varying stages of readiness for change offering highquality patientcentered care in alignment with best practices and Clients mission.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments screenings and orientations for new patients.
  • Provide individual group and family counseling ensuring care aligns with best practice standards.
  • Deliver case management services including triaging referrals and coordination with external agencies.
  • Collaborate with Addiction Medicine Medical Team for patients receiving medication.
  • Document care and treatment plans in the electronic health record in accordance with medical/legal standards.
  • Engage in program development inservice training and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications: NonNegotiable Requirements:
  • Experience:
    • At least 1 year of experience in a substance use disorder treatment setting within the past 5 years.
  • Education:
    • Masters degree in counseling social work or a related field (e.g. M.S.W. M.S. M.A. M.Ed.) at the time of hire.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee Certification (WA) OR Substance Use Disorder Professional License (WA).
    • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications (NicetoHaves):
  • 2 years of postmasters experience in substance use disorder treatment.
  • Experience working in integrated healthcare settings including primary care services.
  • Specialized training or experience in:
    • Adolescent substance use disorder treatment.
    • Family therapy and traumainformed care.
    • Motivational Interviewing techniques and FeedbackInformed Care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and virtual care platforms.
  • Certification as an Addiction Counselor in practicing state(s).
Role Within the Organization:

This position acts as the front door to the department handling referrals from primary care psychiatry and behavioral health consultants. The counselor typically manages 23 assessments or orientations daily and facilitates one engagement group weekly.
