JOB SUMMARY
This engineer will be responsible for engineeringrelated activities associated with a power generating plant. This position is responsible for providing plant technical support developing longterm plans and budgets to maintain and improve equipment performance. The Project Engineer will manage capital and O&M projects by following prescribed procedures to develop design options and/or recommendations for system and equipment improvement initiatives. The successful candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills to work with plant personnel Southern Company Services (SCS) vendors and a wide range of contractors to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide outage/project management project budget management longterm maintenance strategies and technical support to the plant.
- Develop 5 & 10year capital budgets and justification for associated capital projects.
- Utilize business tools to develop and justify budgets write work orders purchase equipment and material develop project schedules and monitor equipment.
- Review and analyze system equipment failures and initiate root cause analyses studies for them.
- Work with Southern Company Services OEMs and system owners at other plants to stay current with any upgrades or concerns that affect the plant and communicate these needs to plant management corporate management and peer groups.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- B.S. in Engineering from an ABETaccredited institution is required.
- B.S. in Civil Engineering is preferred but other engineering disciplines will be considered.
- M.S. in Business or Engineering is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License is also a plus.
Experience
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in an industrial facility or in support of an industrial facility with a project or design focus involving the maintenance of the following types of equipment: pumps/motors air/motoroperated valves fans condensers boilers turbines industrial electrical switchgear circuit breakers and transformers.
- Demonstrated project management experience is required.
- Strong technical expertise and problemsolving abilities are required.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational administrative time management project management facilitation and analytical skills are required.
- Knowledge and experience with personal computers and the ability to learn numerous software applications quickly.
- Selfmotivation and demonstrated initiative are crucial for this position.
- Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company.
- Ability to network and utilize subject matter experts at both the corporate and regional levels to support plant systems.
- Display interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to handle conflict and work effectively within a diverse team.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
- Flexible to work across primary position boundaries by willingly accepting multiple roles as required to support plant needs.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Must be available to work nights weekends and/or holidays as needed.
- May require some extended work hours.
- Must be able to be oncall for the plant for specified rotation frequencies each occurrence being a week in length.
- Minimal travel required 10%.
