Role Lead Mainframe Engineer
Location Schaumburg IL (6 months 3 days Hybrid)
Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive experience in COBOL DB2 VSAM CICS and JCL who is wellversed in the Business Insurance domain. In this pivotal role you will leverage your deep understanding of mainframe technologies to support and enhance our business applications that are critical to our insurance operations. As a key member of our technology team you will collaborate with crossfunctional teams including developers business analysts and project managers to design and implement solutions that meet the evolving needs of our organization. This position requires not only a strong technical foundation but also an ability to communicate complex concepts to stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise. You should be adept at troubleshooting and optimizing mainframe applications and databases to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability. Additionally your expertise in business insurance processes will allow you to align technological solutions with business goals thereby driving improvements in both performance and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical expert for mainframe applications and systems specifically in COBOL DB2 VSAM CICS and JCL.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications to support insurance operations.
- Design code test and implement changes to existing mainframe applications as necessary.
- Monitor and optimize mainframe performance and reliability addressing issues proactively as they arise.
- Collaborate with business analysts to understand and document user requirements and provide technical guidance.
- Develop and execute test plans to ensure solutions meet quality standards and business needs.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior developers and team members on mainframe technologies and insurance workflows.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mainframe SME with a strong technical background in COBOL DB2 VSAM CICS and JCL.
- Indepth knowledge of business processes within the insurance industry.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mainframe application development and support.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical information to nontechnical stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a teamoriented environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
