Job Description

Job Summary:
Refine Plastic Surgery a premier institution specializing in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery is seeking a dedicated and skilled Theatre Technologist. Reporting directly to the Head of Nursing the Theatre Technologist is responsible for ensuring the operating room is impeccably prepared for surgical procedures. This role includes assisting in the transportation of patients to the operating room and managing preoperative and intraoperative tasks according to the highest standards of care.

Role Overview:
As a Theatre Technologist at Refine Plastic Surgery you will be an integral part of our surgical team committed to excellence in patient care and surgical outcomes. You will play a critical role in maintaining a sterile environment preparing surgical instruments and equipment and supporting surgeons and nurses during operations. Your attention to detail technical proficiency and ability to work under pressure will ensure that each surgery is performed smoothly and safely.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and keep the operating room ready ensuring smooth operation prior to surgeries.
  • Prepare necessary equipment and instruments before each procedure.
  • Assist in transporting patients to the operating room.
  • Attend to patients needs while inside the operating room.
  • Cleanse and disinfect surgical instruments and equipment after surgeries.
  • Prepare instruments and equipment for autoclaving/sterilization per protocol.
  • Clean and disinfect the operating room area after each procedure/surgery.
  • Maintain the sterility and orderliness of all surgical tools and equipment.
  • Prepare the patients body area for surgery by cleaning or shaving as necessary.
  • Wash and disinfect the surgical area before and after procedures.
  • Assist nursing staff in ensuring patient safety during procedures by following recommended protocols including the application of restraints if necessary.
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and performing tasks under the surgeon s direction such as cutting sutures and controlling breathing equipment.
  • Provide necessary support to the surgical team coordinating closely with doctors nurses and laboratory staff.
  • Take care of any specimens obtained for testing following laboratory procedures and delivering specimens to the laboratory.
  • Maintain all equipment clean and functional reporting any defective equipment for repair or replacement.
  • Order and maintain necessary supplies in the operating room.
  • Sterilize and restock the operating room after surgeries.
  • Assist other staff in discharging patients as needed.
  • Dispose of waste removed during operations.
  • Perform wound management tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the surgical environment.


Requirements

Education and Qualifications
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C.
  • KRHCN or Certificate in Theatre Technician course from a recognized institution.
  • 35 years of experience in theatre as a technician.
  • Registered by Nursing Council/KHPOA for Theatre technician
  • Additional training in perioperative nursing will be an added advantage
