Role Overview:
The Dental Service provides medically necessary dentistry for individuals currently receiving or who have undergone chemotherapy radiation therapy and/or surgery for cancer or related diseases. Established in 1934 the service specializes in the diagnosis consultation and dental treatment of medically compromised patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the management team to establish best practices and monitor workflows for proper procedures during exams.
- Handle preexamination and posttreatment responsibilities including sterile instrument management organizing the examination room ensuring adequate supplies and maintaining inventory.
- Assist with examinations by performing duties such as charting preparing materials and instruments passing instruments and suctioning.
- Provide guidance and promote professional development within the dental assistant team.
- Contribute to the onboarding training and mentorship of new dental assistant staff.
- Provide coverage for the Dental Manager when necessary including reallocation of staff assignments leading daily huddles and performing clinical rounds.
Key Qualifications:
- 24 years of experience in a dental assistant role with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- Supervisor experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of dental technologies including radiographic equipment (intraoral panoramic and CBCT) and the ability to capture diagnosticquality radiographs.
- Proven experience working on a team providing leadership and guidance.
- Extensive knowledge of infection control and prevention in a dental environment.
- Experience providing care to patients of all ages including children adolescents and older adults.
