Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

1. Customer Service and Interaction

  • Greeting and assisting customers: Provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere to customers or guests as they enter the premises.
  • Address customer inquiries: Respond to questions, direct customers to the appropriate departments or services, and provide helpful information.
  • Resolve issues: Handle customer complaints or concerns promptly and courteously, aiming for quick resolution or escalation to supervisors when needed.
  • Provide guidance: Assist customers with navigating the service or facility, ensuring they have a smooth experience.

2. Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Cleaning tasks: In settings such as hotels, restaurants, hospitals, or offices, a service worker may be responsible for ensuring cleanliness, including cleaning restrooms, offices, guest rooms, and common areas.
  • Maintaining cleanliness: Ensure that the workspace or service area is orderly and hygienic, following company policies and industry standards for cleanliness.
  • Equipment and supplies maintenance: Monitor the usage of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring everything is in good working condition and stored properly.

3. Preparing and Serving Food or Beverages (for roles in food service or hospitality)

  • Food preparation: Assist with meal preparation, ensuring food is handled safely and prepared according to company or safety standards.
  • Serving food and beverages: Deliver food and drinks to customers, ensuring accurate orders and attention to dietary restrictions or special requests.
  • Clearing tables: After customers have finished their meals, clear tables efficiently, reset them for new guests, and maintain a clean dining environment.
  • Following health regulations: Comply with health and safety standards related to food handling, preparation, and cleanliness.

4. Handling Inventory and Supplies

  • Stocking supplies: Ensure that areas are well-stocked with necessary items, such as cleaning supplies, food items, or customer materials (e.g., brochures, promotional materials).
  • Managing stock levels: Help monitor inventory and assist in organizing and replenishing stock as required.
  • Organizing storage areas: Keep supply storage areas clean, organized, and accessible, with clear labeling of products.

5. Support and Assistance in Operations

  • Operational support: Assist with various operational tasks, such as setting up equipment, arranging seating, or preparing spaces for events or services.
  • Providing assistance: Support colleagues or supervisors by carrying out various tasks as needed, ensuring smooth daily operations in the workplace.
  • Handling paperwork or documentation: In some cases, a service worker might assist with maintaining logs, filling out forms, or processing basic administrative tasks.

  • Communication: The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers, colleagues, and supervisors.
