Roles and responsibilities
1. Surveillance and Monitoring:
- Patrol Premises: Regularly patrol assigned areas, either on foot or by vehicle, to ensure that security measures are in place and all areas are secure. This includes monitoring entrances, exits, parking lots, and any vulnerable areas such as storage rooms or cash registers.
- Monitor CCTV: Keep an eye on security camera feeds and surveillance systems to detect suspicious activity. Respond immediately to any unusual or potentially dangerous situations observed on the cameras.
- Alarm Monitoring: Respond to security alarms (e.g., intrusion, fire alarms) and assess the situation, alerting appropriate personnel or authorities when necessary.
2. Access Control:
- Screen Visitors: Verify the identity of individuals entering or exiting the premises by checking IDs, conducting bag searches, or issuing visitor badges. Ensure that only authorized personnel or visitors are allowed access to restricted areas.
- Control Entry Points: Monitor and control access to buildings, rooms, or secure areas. Ensure that doors, gates, or other entry points are properly secured after hours or when not in use.
- Issue and Manage Passes: Issue security passes, visitor badges, or keys, ensuring proper documentation and tracking. Ensure all access points remain secure.
3. Incident Response and Emergency Management:
- Respond to Incidents: Take appropriate action in the event of a security incident, such as theft, vandalism, altercations, or medical emergencies. Assist in managing and resolving situations in a calm and professional manner.
- First Aid: Provide basic first aid in emergencies and assist injured individuals until emergency medical services arrive. Some Security Officers may be trained in CPR and other lifesaving techniques.
- Evacuation Procedures: Be familiar with the building’s emergency exit routes and evacuation plans. Assist employees, visitors, or tenants in evacuating the premises safely in the event of a fire, natural disaster, or other emergencies.
- Emergency Reporting: Notify law enforcement or emergency responders if needed, providing them with accurate information about the nature of the incident and any actions taken.
4. Safety and Risk Prevention:
- Prevent Crime: Actively monitor for potential security threats such as theft, vandalism, or other criminal activity. Take proactive steps to deter crime through visible patrols, enforcing security policies, and addressing suspicious behavior.

- Alertness and Vigilance: Ability to stay alert and attentive for long periods, noticing unusual behavior or potential security threats.
- Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written communication is essential for reporting incidents, giving instructions, and interacting with staff, customers, and law enforcement.
- Conflict Resolution: Skilled in managing and defusing potentially confrontational situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Physical Fitness: Security Officers must be physically fit to walk patrols, respond to emergencies, and, if needed, handle physically demanding situations.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations quickly, make decisions, and respond effectively to emergencies or security breaches.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with security systems, including surveillance cameras, alarms, access control systems, and emergency communication devices.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to observe minute details that may indicate a security risk or violation.
- Discretion and Integrity: Handling confidential information responsibly and acting with integrity in all situations.
