Job Description

Property Accountant

As a Property Accountant you will manage the financial reporting for a designated portfolio of properties ensuring accuracy and timeliness. This role requires collaboration with various departments and stakeholders to maintain seamless financial operations and clear communication.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Review and analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Verify expense classifications and make necessary adjustments.
  • Record accruals reconciliations and closing entries for accurate monthly and annual reporting.
  • Generate and finalize financial reports using Excel and other tools.
  • Manage yearend processes including adjustments for audit entries and closing the books.

Accounts Payable

  • Process invoices and ensure accurate coding and allocation.
  • Generate weekly reports of outstanding accounts for approval.
  • Manage check runs matching payments to invoices and ensure timely disbursement.

Cash Management

  • Maintain detailed cash logs by tracking deposits disbursements and miscellaneous income.
  • Reconcile monthly cash logs with bank statements.

Journal Entries

  • Record accrual journal entries for recurring items such as taxes and insurance.
  • Prepare reversing and yearend entries to ensure proper balance reporting.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison with property managers directors and ownership groups to explain financial reports and resolve queries.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors to address invoice issues and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide clear and timely responses during audits or special projects.

Audit and Special Projects

  • Prepare and deliver reports for auditors and assist in answering questions.
  • Support organizational initiatives by completing assigned special projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (degree in Accounting or Economics preferred).
  • Basic accounting knowledge including familiarity with GAAP.
  • Property management experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs Sheets Gmail) and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Yardi or RealPage is beneficial.
