Job Description
Role: Financial Controller
Location: La Palma CA
Schedule: Onsite Fulltime MidSenior level
Overview:
We are a dynamic privatelyowned company seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our growing team. The Financial Controller will be instrumental in overseeing financial management including corporate accounting regulatory and financial reporting budget and forecast preparation and internal control development. This role also involves financial risk management and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting Operations Management: Oversee all accounting operations including billing accounts receivable (A/R) accounts payable (A/P) general ledger (GL) cost accounting inventory accounting and revenue recognition.
- Budget and Financial Forecasts: Coordinate and manage the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts reporting variances as needed.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
- Technical Accounting: Research technical accounting issues to ensure adherence to relevant standards.
- Close Processes: Support monthend and yearend close processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Quality Control: Maintain quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
- Government Reporting and Tax Filings: Manage and comply with local state and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Internal Controls: Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to enhance internal controls.
- Additional Duties: Perform other controller duties as necessary.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience as a Financial Controller ideally in the Real Estate industry; experience in the restaurant industry is a plus.
- Accounting and Finance Experience: Minimum of 3 years of combined accounting and finance experience.
- Education: Advanced degree in accounting required; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Financial Reporting: Strong understanding of financial reporting under US GAAP.
- Accounting Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and procedures including financial statements and general ledger management.
- Software Skills: Proficient in accounting software; experience with Yardi Software required; knowledge of Great Plains software is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial management systems and effective management of monthend/yearend close processes.
- IT Knowledge: Basic IT knowledge required.
- Travel: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Fieldwork and Site Visits: Open to conducting fieldwork and site visits as necessary.
- Flexibility: Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work extended hours/weekends as needed.
Location Requirement:
Candidates must be located within Orange County or within a 2025 mile radius of La Palma and Newport Coast Drive.
