Job Description
Our client is a leading trading company based in Nigeria that specializes in the exportation of highquality cocoa beans and cashew. Due to expansion they are in need of a COMPLIANCE AND LEGAL OFFICER.
Location: Lagos
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and ensure adherence to all relevant laws regulations and industry standards.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and their implications for the business.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and assessments to identify potential risks.
- Develop and implement compliance policies procedures and controls.
- Identify assess and mitigate compliance risks.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies and controls.
- Monitor and report on key compliance metrics.
- Investigate compliance breaches and allegations of misconduct.
- Report findings to Head of Legal as required.
- Develop and facilitate compliance training programs for employees at all levels.
- Promote a strong compliance culture within the organization.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure compliance integration into business processes.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies and legal counsel.
- Prepare regular compliance reports to the Head of Legal.
- Provide timely and accurate information on compliance issues.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of a firstdegree in Law
- 2 4 years of previous experience in a similar role.
- Deep knowledge of relevant regulations standards and guidelines within the specific industry.
- Knowledge of the transportation and haulage industries would be an added advantage.
- Expert knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word Excel PowerPoint etc.)
Bachelor's Degree in Law or related discipline with 15 years of hands-on experience as head of legal/regulatory compliance in a significant manufacturing concern. Work experience in an internal audit environment Admission into Bar and the ability to think outside the box and demonstrate commercial application of legal knowledge is necessary. In-depth knowledge of the industry s standards and regulations. Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping. A business acumen partnered with a dedication to legality. An analytical mind able to "see" the complexities of procedures and regulations. Excellent communication skills.
Education
