Job Description
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior High Voltage Cable Design Engineer to lead the design and implementation of advanced HV/EHV underground transmission cable systems. This role involves developing comprehensive cable solutions supporting manufacturing processes and engaging directly with clients and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with leadership skills to drive innovation and ensure project success while mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- System Design: Design complete HV/EHV underground transmission cable systems including accessories grounding details bonding schemes and fiber optic components for voltage classes up to 500kV.
- Technical Expertise: Analyze the electromechanical behavior of cable systems to support installation and field applications.
- Documentation & Specifications: Prepare and revise specifications proposals and safety documents in collaboration with internal teams and clients.
- Manufacturing Support: Oversee testing plans conduct design handover meetings and address production challenges to ensure seamless manufacturing.
- Research & Development: Lead R&D initiatives using structured processes managing project timelines budgets and deliverables.
- Customer Engagement: Provide technical training deliver formal presentations and resolve complex technical issues with customers.
- Team Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional development.
- Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Safety Commitment: Promote a culture of safety across all project sites and activities.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience including underground power transmission engineering.
- Proven ability to design HV/EHV cable systems with grounding details and bonding schemes.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of standards such as ICEA AEIC IEC and IEEE.
- Proficiency with engineering software including Cymcap Comsol Multiphysics SolidWorks AutoCAD Matlab and PSCAD.
- Strong technical writing and ability to create and analyze engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with cable materials testing processes and visual basic programming for Excel macros.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional communication skills to interface with clients and internal teams.
- Experience delivering technical presentations and engaging with stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Additional Requirements:
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
- Must possess a collaborative mindset and the ability to lead in crossfunctional settings.
