Job Description
Civil engineers build and maintain infrastructure such as roads bridges buildings and water resources. They use their knowledge of engineering math and design to create and manage projects that meet legal requirements and protect the environment.
Here are some responsibilities of a civil engineer:
Design: Use design software to create plans and models for transportation systems hydraulic systems and structures
Analyze data: Analyze plans survey reports maps and other data to determine the best design for a project
Assess risks: Evaluate the risks and environmental impact of a project
Manage budgets: Prepare cost estimates and manage budgets and project resources
Ensure compliance: Submit permit applications and ensure projects comply with regulations
Oversee construction: Monitor progress at each construction stage and oversee the construction or repair of buildings and infrastructure
Communicate: Work closely with clients architects and subcontractors
Attend meetings: Attend public meetings to discuss projects
Civil engineers may also perform site investigations develop blueprints and resolve design and development problems.
Some qualifications for civil engineers include:
2 3 years of civil engineering experience
Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D MS Word and Excel
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
meeting with clients virtually or during sales visits. demonstrating and presenting products. establishing new business. maintaining accurate records. attending trade exhibitions, conferences and meetings. reviewing sales performance. negotiating contracts and packages.
