Job Description

Electricians install maintain and repair electrical systems in buildings homes factories and businesses. They work with wiring fixtures and equipment to ensure proper electrical functioning.

Some of the duties of an electrician include:

Installation: Installing electrical wiring systems and fixtures including conduits and pipes

Maintenance: Performing preventive maintenance programs and keeping maintenance records

Repair: Identifying electrical problems and repairing or replacing wiring equipment or fixtures

Testing: Testing electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation

Safety: Ensuring that electrical systems adhere to the national electrical safety standards and regulations

Training: Directing and training workers to install maintain or repair electrical wiring or equipment

Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting malfunctions and isolating faults in electrical and electronic systems

Electricians should have strong technical knowledge attention to safety precautions problemsolving skills and the ability to interpret electrical drawings and blueprints. They should also be able to see and discern color since electrical wiring is often colorcoded.
