AC Technician

Roles and responsibilities

The mechanic technician has a responsibility to be knowledge of basic equipment maintenance/service,with the capability of repairing systems and any other maintenance procedures.

Inspect Refrigeration & air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation by correct maintenance actions.
Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling circuits, blowers and controls.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions; install, replace or repair damaged equipment; calibrate thermostatic controls.
Diagnose faults on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; repair and replace damaged or worn heating, ventilation and air-conditioning parts and equipment; repair or replace low and high pressure liquid lines.
Inspect and observe pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of units and make necessary adjustments; inspect and service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators and ice machines.
Maintain the chilled and hot water supply systems.
Adjust and maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems; clean coils and blowers and check motors and belt tensions.
Assemble and install metal duct work.
Assist in planning and designing new installations of heating and air-conditioning systems

• Installation of AC Systems:

  • Install new air conditioning systems, including split, window, and central air systems, following manufacturer specifications and local codes.
  • Ensure proper placement of AC units, electrical connections, and refrigerant lines.
  • Test the installation for efficiency and troubleshoot any initial issues before handing over to the client or team.

• Maintenance and Servicing:

  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance checks on existing AC systems, including cleaning filters, coils, and ducts.
  • Inspect refrigerant levels and charge systems as needed.
  • Perform air quality tests and replace filters or parts as necessary to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Lubricate moving parts, such as fans and motors, to prevent wear and tear.

Desired candidate profile

• • Formal training or an apprenticeship in AC or HVAC systems is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience as an AC technician or in a related technical field, with hands-on experience in system installation, maintenance, and repair.

• Skills & Competencies:

  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of air conditioning systems, including split systems, central air, and cooling towers.
  • Troubleshooting: Strong diagnostic skills for identifying and solving system issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Electrical Knowledge: Ability to handle electrical components and circuits safely, as well as familiarity with electrical safety codes.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to perform precise and thorough work, particularly during installations or maintenance checks.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify problems and recommend effective solutions.
  • Customer Service: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical clients in an understandable way.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple service calls, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

• Certifications and Licenses:

  • Certification in HVAC, EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) certification for handling refrigerants (Section 608), or other industry-recognized credentials.
  • Valid driver’s license (if the job requires travel between different sites).
